Healthcare providers, we have a problem. People are coming to us for care, compassion, and healing; instead, they are being criminalized. This is not medicine. This is not care. We are health care providers, not cops. As a healthcare provider, you are a care expert. We are supposed to help and heal people. Two years after the #Dobbs decision (and forever), we must Use the power and privilege that our white coats provide to not just demand change but to instigate it. Speaking up and speaking out isn’t easy, but it is necessary, especially as more and more people are being criminalized in the health care system, often when seeking care. And remember: there is no mandate to report someone you suspect (or know) has had an abortion. Our patients deserve safety and compassion, not criminalization. #Healthcare https://lnkd.in/dRBdUDEX

Last week I attended the American Telemedicine Association's EDGE Conference in Washington, D.C. 🔹 It was a privilege to be in the room with #telehealth's leading experts from across industries and, particularly, across party lines. Finding resonance with #Republican lawmakers, who fervently took the stage to advocate for #healthcare #equity, increased access to care in #rural and low-income communities, and #interstate licensure left me feeling #hopeful that we have more in common than we thought... 🔹 I heard Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) say “With #telehealth, you saw the ability to reduce travel, increase efficiency, reduce healthcare cost and also to increase compliance with doctors' orders...the efficiency streamlined healthcare delivery and translated into substantial savings and better outcomes and that is what we all want” 🔹 And from US Congressman Bill Johnson (R-OH), that patients should not have to travel miles for specialized care when they could just hop on the phone, that “some patients may even be relaxed in their home” and "patients become more confident in the care they are given" 🔹 While these lawmakers did not mention #abortion, their words could be copied and pasted into talking points for increased #telemedicineabortion #access and culturally centered healthcare. it is critical to remind our lawmakers, especially when we do have synergies, that #AbortionISHealthCare. I'll say it again, #AbortionISHealthCare. I am hopeful that our #lawmakers, and the public, are all paying attention to Kate Cox's story, which indisputably demonstrates that access to safe, effective abortion care is life-saving, life-affirming, and a necessary part of our #medical system. ...#AbortionIsHealthcare.

Hey Jane was recently featured by NBC News for our work to make care as accessible as possible. Hey Jane provides care for patients in 20 states and D.C. (no residency required) and provides a variety of ways to pay for care: We accept insurance and HSA/FSA funds, and offer sliding scale pricing for patients paying out of pocket. We also partner with abortion funds to provide financial assistance. Because cost should never be a barrier to accessing this essential health care. “We have the added benefit of this sort of geographic fluidity where a doctor in New York can serve a patient in Illinois, or New Mexico if the doctor in New Mexico or the provider in New Mexico is busy,” said Hey Jane Co-Founder and CEO Kiki Freedman. “The other piece is financial accessibility and being able to access scalable ways of doing that, so via insurance, in particular.” Read more from NBC News here: https://lnkd.in/eGR6sRjM #abortion #abortionishealthcare #telehealth #telemedicine #healthcareinnovation

Harris's stance on healthcare is tougher than Biden's, suggesting a shift if she’s endorsed in August. Here's why ⬇️ Before her Senate days, Harris battled healthcare heavyweights as California's attorney general. Her biggest move? Suing to block a $54B Anthem-Cigna merger in 2016, arguing it would empower insurers to slash provider pay rates in six California markets. Another way Harris takes a tougher approach to healthcare than Biden? She's backed Medicare for All--with a role for private plans--and pushed for stricter drug pricing, like aligning US prices with those of other wealthy nations. Harris' strongest health care stance is her advocacy for reproductive rights post-Roe v. Wade. She made history as the first VP to visit an abortion provider. Unlike Biden, who once held anti-abortion views, Harris has consistently supported abortion access. Harris also led Senate efforts on maternal mortality. She distinguished herself as a leader for maternal health, advocating for extended Medicaid coverage for new moms, better data collection, and more. Granted, Harris' policy influence depends on which party controls the House and Senate after November's elections. And she may not even *be* the nominee if delegates vote otherwise next month—though a virtual vote could happen beforehand. August, here we come. 🔍 New Publication Alert! 🔍 Our latest research on post-abortion care reveals that women often delay seeking care due to fear of negative attitudes from the community and healthcare providers. To improve the provision and utilization of quality abortion-related healthcare services, we must: 1️⃣ Increase awareness of the availability and legality of safe abortion services. 2️⃣ Emphasize the importance of seeking healthcare early for any abortion-related discomfort. 3️⃣ Highlight the provision and availability of free services at all levels of care. Together, we can ensure that all women receive the care they need without fear or delay. #PostAbortionCare #Healthcare #ReproductiveHealth #NewPublication #WomensHealth Read more about our findings https://lnkd.in/dCTqEQFM
