It's been around 110° in Tampa Bay with the heat index...whew! 😳 That's why today for #MapMonday I'm sharing this ArcGIS map of cooling center lists across the U.S. This map is maintained by CEDR Digital Corps volunteers, who help to improve situational awareness for the public for disaster preparedness and response. An important policy intervention to reduce the negative impacts of extreme heat is to have accessible cooling centers. These centers can also provide education and other resources to navigate the heat in your community, and are particularly important for vulnerable people - outdoor laborers, the elderly, and children, and people without housing or with inadequate cooling in their homes. The National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) also maintains a list of Cooling Centers by State: https://lnkd.in/eckP89Ew Even if you aren't personally impacted, you can play a role in ensuring that your community has adequate resources by advocating for cooling centers and improved outreach and education for those who need it. We all benefit from these policy interventions. https://lnkd.in/eZJGC3GY #publichealth #law #policy #healthequity #climatechange #extremeheat #themoreyouknow
