As an organization, Healwise is committed to building our platform around the needs of the help-seekers we’ve set out to support. Our view: If you want to increase #access to #mentalhealth services for people of color and low-income folks, you first must understand their experiences with seeking support. Young adults at the intersection of these identities have unique needs and challenges when seeking care. Though they have increasing independence, they must often still turn to adults in their lives for guidance and support. With the goal of developing a deeper understanding of young adults and their mental healthcare experiences, last summer, Tali Ball, PhD, Harlee Onovbiona, and Monica Estrada interviewed eight young adults in the Chicago area. Their interviews particularly focused on the challenges young people faced when starting their mental health journeys. How do they search for help? What holds them back? Today, I’m excited to share the results of their work in our new report: “Bridging the Gap: Enhancing Mental Health for Young Adults.” Our hope is that mental health advocates and service providers can use this report’s insights to inform how they serve and support young people of color. Thanks for your support. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth https://lnkd.in/d9RRhb3A
