Cedar is hiring! | Remote Staff Engineer/Tech Lead - Gen AI + Backend leaning Full Stack | Join our Mission to Make Healthcare More Affordable & Accessible | Mental Health & Remote Work Advocate
Hey everyone! Many have reached out to me and checked in via text, email, and on LinkedIn. Yes, I’m having more fun than ever at @Reddit, and things are starting to heat up with leadership roles opening across Core Engineering. Some are open now, some are coming soon! I always update my profile with roles I'm working. Here’s the hard thing about hard things. My leaders have specific needs, and while people that I come across have done amazing things in their career, successfully delivered some of the hardest technical challenges, often the gap is too wide and we don’t move forward. I work to be as clear as possible to candidates on what we’re seeking, and often run profiles by my hiring leaders if there are any indicators of good alignment, and based on the criteria that my leaders give me in my kick-off meetings and in our regular syncs. First, let me tell you about my hiring leader, our Senior Director of Engineering, for X, Keyur (KD) Bhulani You can look him up on Linkedin and see his amazing career journey, and about his technical expertise, which is similar to what we're seeking for our open role today. A little about KD, he is transparent, he gives feedback quickly, and I appreciate that he is dialed in and knows what he’s looking for in this director hire. He works to build complete and diverse teams and is an inclusive leader. To learn more about the role, read on! Director of Engineering, X - Marketplace: Link to role => https://bit.ly/4cAmH7k. This person will drive technical strategy for Reddit’s new user economy and payments platforms. They will also be responsible for maintaining and evolving the existing infrastructure for Reddit’s premium subscription & Avatars revenue streams. We are seeking someone with demonstrated social media experience - building and scaling direct to consumer revenue products, marketplace products and/or payments platforms. We expect you to be able to readily recount detailed wins and learning moments in this space. From a technical expertise perspective we’re seeking both backend infra and client side depth and capabilities. Finally, we’re seeking someone that has 5+ years leading teams, and within that, be a manager of managers as well as an amazing cross-functional partner. Can we find this unicorn? Transparently, we’ve gotten an overwhelming response. Since posting late Thursday we’ve had close to 500 applications, and I have four conversations that I’m looking forward to today, as well as a couple more I’m waiting to hear back from. If you have applied to this role, but your experience doesn’t meet what we’re seeking above, please know that more leadership roles are coming. I am seeing some incredibly talented individuals, and please trust that I am working to pipeline for more roles that are coming soon. I hope you have an amazing day ahead, and if you know someone that might be great for this role, please pass it on! If no one has told you lately, you are awesome! Photo cred: Joshua Jones

✍ Andrew Orlowski writes: What do caddy butchers and diecasters have in common? They’re both #occupations, once widespread, that don’t exist anymore. And maybe they’ll soon be joined by another: #coders. Software #developers are not feeling very loved right now as the #tech industry continues to dispense with them en masse. January saw an increase in redundancies, according to the website Layoffs.fyi. Leading the charge were Alphabet, Meta and eBay, which all announced fresh rounds of job #cuts, while Amazon and Microsoft both slashed their games divisions. They add to the 164,969 tech layoffs publicly announced in 2022, and 262,682 last year. Many more were not disclosed in public. This may be more than a correction as the #sector rectifies itself after the extravagant overhiring of the Covid #pandemic. But perhaps something else is also going on, and that is that the world just doesn’t need so many #software developers. Elon Musk’s experiment in running X, formerly Twitter, using just a fraction of the #staff it once employed is now being copied, albeit not so radically. I LOVE this post by Lianna Novitz. I've counseled dozens of college students, recent grads, MBAs, and seasoned professionals during their job search process. I often hear them say, "I'm looking for a new job, can you let me know if you hear of anything?" Take note of Lianna's specificity in the ask and clear representation of her value prop. Lianna successfully and succinctly includes: (1) Career context - what she's done, where she is currently (2) Her "secret sauce" - what differentiates her from the rest, with NUMBERS (3) Career goals - what she's looking for with specifics (4) The ask - a list of tangible ways you can help her in the search (5) Personality and positivity - she keeps it positive by mentioning all the other things she's been up to, she shows parts of herself that aren't necessarily represented on her profile I also had the pleasure of working with Lianna at Unity and through Women Who Code, and highly recommend her as an employee.

Secret hack to land your dream job. Use this query to find 1000+ hidden job listings. For e.g. Searching for PM jobs, try this query in Google site:jobs.lever. co ("senior product manager" | "product manager" | "growth" | "PM" ) intitle:remote For e.g. Searching for Engineering jobs, try this query in Google site:jobs.lever. co ("frontend" | "fullstack" | "software engineer" | "web" ) intitle:remote" You can also exclude certain keywords with the - operator, for e.g. "-director -senior". You can use google search operators to help you customize your query. Other sites to use it for: "site:jobs.ashbyhq. com" "site:boards.greenhouse. io" "site:apply.workable. com" "site:jobs.polymer. co" "site:"*.breezy. hr" <-- use the * wildcard instead of the company name "site:"*.wd1.myworkdayjobs. com" Google doesn't like these queries and you'll be prompted to confirm captchas. Good Luck finding your dream job. #careers #jobinterviews

Product Driven Founder/CTO for 20 years, Bootstrapped a SaaS company to a 9 figure exit, CEO of Full Scale
Hiring a developer doesn't always solve any problems. It can create more problems. If you airdrop someone into your company, do they know what to do? One of the hardest parts about development is ensuring you have the right product strategy, roadmap, and requirements for your team. Bringing in help without a map will leave them lost. You more likely have to hire expert consultants who can figure all that out with zero help.
