This Pride Month, we are featuring Walter Tayburn, a HearingLife Patient Care Coordinator at our Phillipsburg, NJ location, who is a member of the LGBTQIA+ Community. For Walter, Pride Month is a time of reflection, “I came out during a time when it was not generally accepted. I was concerned about discrimination in housing, job opportunities and my general safety. I think it's important to remember where we have been as a community and where we hope to go in the future.” At HearingLife, Walter feels celebrated for being his authentic self, not just tolerated. “It's important to remember to embrace and love oneself. It's not ego or flaunting; it's a community celebrating freedom.” Thank you to Walter and all our Team Members for bringing your best to HearingLife every day. #Pride #TeamMembers

There's a different perspective as a DeafBlind... learn more here from Loni Friedmann!
Here’s a second flyer about being DeafBlind. I realize that many people don’t know what DeafBlind really means and automatically thinks of Helen Keller which isn’t the case for the DeafBlind community at all. So I want to share my life experiences to help you all gain a better understanding of what being DeafBlind is like. The image is a flyer titled "MY DEAFBLIND LIFE" with information about three presentations related to DeafBlind experiences and advocacy. 1. "What? I'm DeafBlind? (60 minutes):" This session introduces the speaker's life as a DeafBlind individual, discussing dual sensory loss and accessibility challenges in workplaces and public spaces. 2. "Life Journey and Solutions! (90 minutes):" This presentation delves deeper into DeafBlind experiences, focusing on accessibility barriers and practical solutions, including creating accessible social media content. 3. "Embracing and Advocating as a DeafBlind Person (2 hours):" This comprehensive presentation addresses accessibility challenges and provides strategies for inclusive social media, websites, and newsletters. It also covers fostering inclusivity for DeafBlind employees and customers. There is a photo of a person with light skin, long wavy hair with dark roots and lighter ends, wearing red lipstick, a nose ring, and a black top. They are wearing a necklace with a black pendant. At the bottom, there is an email for inquiries: functionasloni@gmail.com.

Speaker | DEIA Trainer & Consultant | Building cultures that center the voices of people with disabilities & chronic illnesses | Diversability 2023 D-30 Disability Impact List | Neurodivergent w/ Chronic + Rare Diseases
It's been a busy summer at Eye Level Communications, LLC. From our webinar collaboration with ReadySet, publishing my third article in Hearing Health Foundation Magazine, and completing my Step into Your Moxie Certification Training, to being a guest on the DEI Pro Finder podcast, being accepted into the 2024 Lights! Camera! Access! cohort and attending the 2024 Disability:IN Conference, it's been an incredible whirlwind of immersion and activation! 🔑 My key takeaway? To create sustainable change, we must dismantle the barriers to participation that people with disabilities face in their personal and professional lives, including attitudinal, communication, physical, policy, programmatic, social, and transportation barriers. Understanding and removing these barriers will "...create a future where inclusion and opportunity are the norms, not the exceptions," as my dear friend and colleague Jason Carr stated. 💫 If you'd like to learn more, check out Eye Level's training course, "Identify and Remove Barriers to Increase Participation of People with Disabilities." https://lnkd.in/gNBspipK Summary: Did you know that people with disabilities often encounter seven common barriers in their lives, work, and society? This training will guide participants in understanding and recognizing these barriers in personal and professional settings. Additionally, they'll learn to create and apply creative solutions to effectively eliminate these obstacles, promoting fair access for everyone. #DisabilityInclusion #RepresentationMatters #EyeLevel #EyeLevelWorks #IncluseThis #Accessibility #DisabilityPride Juan Taveras, MBA, SPHR, Kathleen West-Evans, Yishane Lee 📸 Image Description: Top Row (L to R) - 1. Transforming legal challenges into strategic opportunities while fostering a culture of integrity and inclusion
I'm really looking forward to the second installment of our Let's Talk Diversity Series. We are talking all things Disability Pride Month, with a focus on allyship and recognizing ableism in ourselves and society - and taking ACTION to change it. In case you couldn't tell, my passions extend beyond the law and advocacy for my client. (Yunex Traffic - I will forever be your biggest advocate!) I am so fortunate that this company embraces my need to do more and be more, a symptom, or rather, benefit of my neurodivergence. Never before has an employer given me the breadth to excel at both counseling the business on legal and compliance matter AND being a significant part of culture and change through the things that mean so much to me. I get to flex my analytical, persuasive and logical muscles - and engage my creativity side. I wish this for everyone. We spend so much of our lives working; shouldn't we find balance, joy and meaning in it?

Today the spotlight is on our 🌟National Public Relations, Marketing, Media and Communications Manager - Kelli Wright Laiho🌟 🎙 What drew you to Empowered Liveability SDA, and how does it align with what you're passionate about? I was asked by the Directors to join as I'd worked with Nicole in PR and Marketing in the music industry for decades. Nicole had started a new business and thought I'd be a great fit for their first staff member as not only did I have proven management/ PR skills, I was also diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2000 and in 2016 I was crushed by a 22-tonne truck which left me with Acquired Brain injury and loss of hearing in my right ear. 🎙Can you share a moment that reflects why you're dedicated to helping people with disabilities find their new homes? I too was told I'd be going into aged care at 25 as that was the only place I could be cared for, so when the Empowered Liveability Directors shared their goals, house models with 3 rooms and tenant matching as well as 'Your House, Your Rules'...well, I had a mission to share hope for living in beautiful accommodations when it seemed, the rest of the world could push you into any living situation they felt fit. I was 25 not 85. 🎙How do your skills and professionalism make a difference in the lives of current and future Tenants of Empowered Liveability? 20 years in Management, Marketing, Public Relations and Media as well as a woman with PWD in high-level career placements, I knew my skills, life and personality could change people's perceptions of what a PWD would want and need from their environment, carers, careers, family and friends, in short, not to be shoved in a corner and forgotten. My first step into being a disability advocate was modelling in the NDIS rollout through TV, print and radio. Second, was changing my industry and joining the disability sector working for Empowered Liveability for the last 7 years and during that time I became an MS Ambassador. 🎙How do you see your care and professionalism making an impact in your role? I will keep showing up and working towards changing the incorrect preconceptions and ideologies that some have of PWD's capabilities. #specialistdisabilityaccommodation #disabilityadvocate #disabilityawareness #NDIS #liveonyourterms #livedexperiencematters #independantliving
