A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for portions of Western and Central Kansas, Northwestern Oklahoma, and Northeastern Texas Panhandle until 10 p.m.
The NWS says this is a "PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION" as the storms could produce widespread damaging winds with gusts likely to reach 90 mph! Also, very large, softball-size hail is likely along with a few tornadoes.
SAFETY TIPS: When thunder roars, go indoors! You need to get inside a sturdy building before a thunderstorm hits. Plan to shelter in the basement or a small, interior, windowless room on the lowest level to provide additional protection from high winds and stay inside until weather forecasts indicate it is safe to leave. Mobile, manufactured, trailer homes, and recreational vehicles (RVs) are not safe in high winds.
