The LIFESAVER Project is a groundbreaking initiative that focuses on the crucial prenatal period, where the impacts of potentially hazardous substances can cause serious health consequences that may affect the baby long after birth. The primary vision that drives this project is to foster an environment where all pregnant women have the necessary conditions that foster healthy fetal growth. Understanding that the first steps of life begin in the womb, the LIFESAVER Project prioritizes ensuring that this vital stage is not undermined by detrimental environmental factors. It recognizes the need for all pregnancies to occur in environments where mothers can confidently know that their unborn child is safe from exposure to environmental and chemical toxins. With its far-reaching objectives, the LIFESAVER Project marks a major stride forward in safeguarding the health of future generations. It not only signifies a commitment to enhancing maternal and fetal health but also contributes to our larger goal of building healthier communities worldwide. In health communications, we often reflect on the power of women to make health care decisions for their families -- including the nuclear spouse and offspring, but also caregiving for extended family. I love how this focused on women's path with their own health, and I'm pleased to enter my Warrior phase. Also, we are edging towards the admission that health research has historically excluded women, due to sexism but also due to the scientific reasoning that the fewer factors included, the more definitive the results (which has some truth...but is also not completely true.) Let's invest in women's health research so we can invest in women's health care -- your life and the interconnected lives of the ones you love depend on it. https://lnkd.in/eXZjYNCE

For too long men’s health has been seen as a niche, specialty area not deserving of our collective attention. This week, with the release of our Movember Real Face report, we are highlighting some seemingly controversial truths, namely that men experience gendered biases in the health system. As I told The Guardian, men and boys need an ongoing and trusting relationship with the health system built on mutual respect and understanding. We could save over 37,000 lives, like Shehan’s, along with $10.7B each year from men’s preventable deaths with a gender responsive healthcare system. For each of these men, there are significant intergenerational ripple effects we cannot understestimate. Men’s health effects us all. https://lnkd.in/gThmDPt4

Health Secretary Victoria Atkins has outlined the government's key priorities for 2024, aiming to transform healthcare for women across the nation. The focus areas include better care for menstrual and gynaecological conditions, expanding women’s health hubs, supporting victims of domestic and sexual abuse, bolstering maternity care, and investing in more research. Women’s Health Maria Caulfield emphasises that these issues impact women deeply but are challenges for everyone to address. With accomplishments like reducing HRT costs and launching women’s health hubs in local areas, the government is aiming to make healthcare accessible and effective for all women. We’re ensuring these changes benefit all women, regardless of socioeconomic background or ethnicity, because our Women’s Health Strategy is only a success if it works for all women.
