The Active Australia Innovation Challenge
is the Heart Foundation's grant program to fund community initiatives
to get more people moving. The community our project is focusing on
is Mossman Gorge Aboriginal community and it's to reduce
diabetes in the community. The Cardiac Track is a purpose built bike
track and adaptive bikes for children with intellectual
and physical disabilities from Mackenzie State Special School. We promote regular physical activity
through walks across Australia, and these walks allow us to connect men, strengthen communities, and combat
social isolation and loneliness. The funding means so, you know, so much. I mean, we've got people
that are really sick in Mossman Gorge This funding will help immensely. Having the funding means we can get this done quickly
and we can get kids active faster. The Innovation Challenge funding allows us
to really put our resources and energy and efforts into growing our initiatives
across Australia. Got a bright idea
to get your community moving? Apply today. Without the money, we wouldn't
be able to send this container and then distribute them
to the local communities. Provide a training. Project. It's called Wobble Dundee,
which means strong heart and includes walking from 2000 to 10,000 steps a day,
wearing a monitor that we will track. And people will be able
to track their weight loss weekly. Having this track and the access to bikes will give them an opportunity
to engage in bike riding. We really hope it's something that
they will continue to do on a daily basis. The R Revolve Recycling Foundation,
who helps kids that have no access to bicycles? We have a container filled up
with those 200 boxes that we will sent to a partner we have in other springs
that will work with us to distribute them. My project is called the Neuro
Rhythm Project and it is to benefit people with brain injuries
who bring together the elements of drumming and dance in a freestyle way,
which is shown to help people re inhabit their bodies, post injury
and rediscover themselves. Hi, I'm Terrence. Douglass. And welcome to my Soul Voyage. We're ready to go. We're ready to go. Just us, that Salem
of our little community. I mean, that's about half the community. Yeah. Half the community. I think if we can get at least, at least
then I reckon we will get at least, you know,
we doing 100 meter sprints and get ready. Just, just just moving just
a little bit more and then just build on that, like a little slow build and,
you know, like we're going to get to the Olympics,
but we're going to be moving a bit more and it's and that's where it's at,
like just getting your body moving and getting the blood flowing
and go from there. Who are the drivers in community
that can really support it? Because support is king. So we have you guys. So supporting
each other is really important. We want to give you the skill sets
and you possible and the kids are possible with their kids.
It changes that. So if someone. Wants to get into this really,
really supportive any time of the day, I think a hundred times
and think I could just check myself. As a community. We're coming together to deal with this, but these are pretty much just seeing mob like Ian powered by, we'll take control of the house,
but to do that, you need support. And that's where that's where the love for
the fun will come, will come in handy. I think it's a great idea. I, really like to get involved with it. Only because I don't want my children
to grow up thinking diabetes and heart disease
is going to be a part of their life. So I'll teach them now. The most exciting thing for me,
is reversing the diabetes. But we haven't, experienced
any healthy lifestyle changes. And in my community and Muslim coach,
I think it's a good idea because it's good for young generation
and other, elders. And just so that we can come together
and sort this through. Just so that's a good, lifestyle and change for our health. My mom suffered with diabetes
and heart disease. She passed on at 39, and I'm 37, and I want to tackle this
and get on top of this and show my girls that, have to grow up going through
any of this, like my mom did, and I do. Make myself a diabetic since my mid 20s, and I'm 41 and, and then look at where
you can make those changes. And in that time,
what do you think seven weeks. And let's do I know it's different. Look for a bullet just to hear that I was you were excited. We're ready to go. We're ready to go.
We have absolutely loved working with Heart Foundation on our project for The Man Walk Australia Incorporated, the grant has allowed us to achieve such powerful things that have helped us really make a difference.
Today, on International Youth Day, Reflecting on my journey, I'm reminded of the immense potential of young people.
Despite the challenges we face, there are so many opportunities within our grasp. Being young today comes with its struggles, but every setback is a chance to learn and grow, making us more resilient. Our generation is filled with creativity and innovation, constantly proving that age is not a barrier to making a meaningful impact.
What's most inspiring is the way we support and uplift each other, creating communities and networks that truly matter. This is our moment to shape the future, not just for ourselves but for generations to come. Let's continue pushing, learning, and making a difference. ✨
On this International Youth Day, I'm proud to be part of a generation that doesn't wait for change but makes it happen.

At Wester'ly, we are dedicated to addressing the critical issue of digital exclusion in Western Sydney. Our community members face significant barriers to accessing digital technologies, which restrict access to essential services, online education, employment opportunities, and staying connected with loved ones. Western Sydney has higher levels of digital exclusion compared to the rest of Sydney, highlighting the urgent need for action.
Find our recommendations to tackle digital exclusion in Western Sydney in the Wester'ly Key Asks: Promoting Digital Inclusion in Western Sydney.
The true measure of our progress is not just in the heights we reach but in how many we bring along with us.
Today, on Social Mobility Day, I am reminded that social mobility is not just a goal; it is a necessity for a fair and just society. It’s about breaking the chains of circumstance and ensuring that every individual, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to achieve their full potential. When we champion social mobility, we are not just changing individual lives; we are unlocking the boundless potential of entire communities and driving forward the progress of our society.
By investing in people, providing equal opportunities, and fostering an environment where talent and hard work are the only prerequisites for success, we can create a world where everyone has the chance to thrive. Let’s commit to tearing down barriers and building bridges that connect ambition with opportunity. We can all play a part.

Invisibility is an experience that many BIPOC, newcomers, or underrepresented groups can relate to—feeling unseen despite hard work and contributions. This extends beyond identity—it happens in academia, workplaces, and communities, where contributions are often overlooked when someone holds less power, lacks a title, or is from a marginalized group.
My colleague Jia Yue He shared a profound insight: “Crediting others isn’t just a courtesy or a way to advance careers—it’s a true recognition of the achievements accomplished, the relationships forged, and the help received. At the end of the day, we can't control how others perceive us. But building a place where people can be seen is a good start.”
This resonates deeply with why I founded GLOCAL—to create spaces where individuals are seen, heard, and given opportunities to thrive. It’s not about changing how others perceive us but about building cultures and stages that actively uplift and credit the efforts of those invisible efforts driving change.
Recognition and inclusivity matter—not for titles, it’s about seeing the effort, the unseen labor, and the value people bring.
What are your thoughts on inclusivity and visibility?

We had some interesting discussions last week at the social mobility roundtable for #OurCity2030 led by Poku Pipim Osei FRSA and Nina Skubala.
The importance of getting people together in one room can never be underestimated, particularly for a multi-organisation, place-based approach like this. It was useful to map out support pathways, share challenges and explore opportunities for collaboration with Jess Woodsford, Xavier Baker, Maria Vitale, Nathan Ingram, Sangeetha Wynter, Molly Byrne, Martin Bisp, Siobhan Denniff and others.
It's encouraging to see a genuine willingness to work together around our shared goals and establish how we can promote social mobility and meaningfully support underrepresented young people in the city.

When I came to Australia, the first thing that impressed me was how the first question people often ask is: "How long have you been in Australia?"
It struck me as a reflection of the country’s deep multiculturalism. Through my daily life and work at Creating Chances, I’ve had the privilege of discovering so many vibrant communities that embody this diversity.
Of course, this multiculturalism also comes with challenges. During the #StrengtheningSocialCohesion conference yesterday, I explored some of these rising issues—declining national pride and belonging, persistent discrimination, financial stress, and concerns about inequality.
#socialcohesion happens when people feel valued, share common values, and have the opportunity to fully participate in society.
While we need to remain aware of rising challenges, we should also build on the positive work already being done embracing vibrant communities—Fair Go policies, and the world’s oldest continuous culture.
Western Sydney, with its incredible diversity of 170 languages, offers a way forward, showing how embracing our differences can strengthen connections and foster a more inclusive society.

Growing up in South Auckland, I was exposed to countless experiences that shaped how I view people. While many might only see the notorious challenges of this environment—like navigating social norms or addressing issues like food poverty—I saw something deeper: community, resilience, and empathy.
One memory that stands out is the small yet powerful acts of generosity within our community. It wasn’t about grand gestures or public recognition. It was about quietly supporting each other—giving when we could, sharing what we had, and simply listening.
This environment taught me to listen without judgment, help where possible, and look for opportunities to help others thrive. It’s where my passion for people began and where I realised that when people are given the right tools and environment, they can flourish.
Today, this foundation has led me to focus on people capability/optimisation strategies—helping organisations align their people with their goals, ensuring that both individuals and teams have the chance to thrive.
It’s not just about optimisation or strategy. It’s about recognising the value of people, their potential, and the environments that help them succeed.
