February is American Heart month-- and a great time to talk about why heart disease is a women's health issue. I wrote this post for the American Heart Association a few years ago, and the key points hold: ❤️ the paradigm of coronary heart disease is based on men, and we still don't fully know all the ways that women are different (but we know some of them-- women have more disease in smaller vessels, and may not respond as well to PCI). ❤️ recognition and timely treatment of symptoms differs by gender, and this is a key factor in determining outcomes. 🔑takeaways? patient education and prevention (primary care tasks!) are paramount, and equity in research remains a high priority. https://lnkd.in/gRwjmBgv #primarycare #cardiovasculardisease #womenshealth #hearthealth #nursepractitioner

Happy Valentines Day! We hope your day is full of love. To celebrate, we remind you to take good care of your heart, both physically and emotionally. (Broken Heart Syndrome is a thing!) Heart Failure is associated with significant mortality, morbidity, and healthcare expenditures. Despite focused efforts by physicians and health systems, patient outcomes remain poor, and 30-day re-admission rates remain high. When evidence-based care is provided during the initial stay, readmission rates are reduced. It is important for healthcare professionals to know current guidelines regarding medical and other therapies for acute and chronic heart failure to improve patient outcomes. Read more about it in our latest blog https://lnkd.in/gyTksXg9 To schedule an update for your staff on heart failure, don't hesitate to contact our office at 877-505-4777 or email us at info@speakersnetwork.com. #medicaleducation #cme #patienthealth #medicaleducationspeakersnetwork #training #blog #medicalblog #heartfailure #hearthealth #brokenheartsyndrome Maria Anderson Elizabeth Sharif

There are record numbers of people waiting for heart care in England alone. Heart patients can’t wait. In a new report released today, we're calling on the new UK Government to commit to a Heart Disease Action Plan and put in place a series of measures that could help to reduce early death and disability from cardiovascular disease. These include reducing waits for heart treatment and care, addressing obesity and smoking, tackling health inequalities, and powering research and innovation. The right focus and action could help avoid up to 11,000 premature cardiovascular disease deaths each year by 2035. Help us end the heart care crisis: https://lnkd.in/ehwpQTG7 #HeartsNeedMore

"Let's Get On With It!" Delighted to join the launch of British Heart Foundation's Hearts Need More launch https://lnkd.in/e4T6VwWP last night which calls for the publication of a national heart disease action plan. More than shocked to hear that heart attacks and strokes in the under 75s are rising for the first time in more than 14 years. But there is hope - we could prevent 11,000 deaths through preventative action. National Medical Director Prof. Steve Powis, NHSE, called us all to action "Let's get on with it." Our work at UCLPartners on CVD prevention is aiming to do just that - working to both optimise people with know high risk conditions through #CVDACTION and our #ProactiveCareFrameworks and develop new pathways and approaches for case finding.
