Who are the forgotten women? Why care about somebody I don't know? It doesn't impact me, so I don't need to bother myself with it..... Let's break the stigma and their silence, stand up, and educate ourselves and those around us. Support those without a voice and those who are too scared, embarrassed, or worried about judgment! 'The Forgotten Women', over 40,000 Queensland women over the age of 55 are homeless. Sadly this figure is due to increase twofold by 2036! With over 700 based in greater Brisbane. That is 700 women who are someone’s aunt, mother, or grandmother, struggling to keep their heads above water, often doing so in silence. I am calling all my LinkedIn friends, family and colleagues, Stand with me and support my team, we are taking on the Live Like Her Challenge 2024 to help more homeless women over 55 into homes. For one night, we will sleep in a car to raise awareness and funds for The Forgotten Women project, an initiative that is close to our hearts. This initiative hits close to home for me. I have seen close friends struggle to find suitable accommodation for their families, especially elderly mothers and grandmothers who have even had to couch surf with only the clothes on their backs and without the medication some need due to having to decide which bill to pay, the house, power or food?? We can never judge one's circumstances, but we can certainly change our thought process and help rather than hinder. For some, homelessness is due to financial strain, domestic violence and, in some situations, families who don't want anything to do with them. In a situation most of us could never imagine, these women often hold their heads high and suffer in silence, but they deserve a warm, safe home. Let's help raise awareness for such a worthy cause. To support us, click “Donate Now” to make a secure online donation as “Everyone deserves to live with dignity and age securely in place”. https://lnkd.in/gNZuyqEJ All donations over $2 are tax-deductible, and you’ll receive an automatic receipt via email. Thank you for your generosity and support. In the great words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” 👨👩👧👧 👭 👬 💛 #LLHC2024 #livelikeherchallenge #empowerchange #educateyourself #joinmetomakeachage #homelessness #livelikeherchallange2024 #theforgettenwomen #communityservice #inittogether #fundraise #brisbane #qld #womenmatter #family #beboldbebrave #communityimpact #initiative #breakthesilence #downerutilities
👭 Our #Water team will be participating in the 'Live Like Her Challenge 2024', an initiative to raise awareness and funds for 'The Forgotten Women Project.' ❤️ Alice Austin is leading the Downer effort alongside Caitriona Floyd, Jo Rogers, Emily Auchettl-McHugh, Samantha J. and Aleisha-Marie Billing to help highlight the increasing number of homeless women over 55 facing hardship and sleeping in their cars. 🙏 If you would like to support the team and make a donation towards this worthy cause, please follow the link: https://lnkd.in/gBf4DqH9) #LLH2024 #LiveLikeHerChallenge

🟠 ONE DONATION, DOUBLE THE IMPACT – 10-17 OCT🟠 We are standing at a pivotal moment. Around the world, women are facing unimaginable gender-based violence and systemic injustice. Yet, only 1.6% of all philanthropic funds go to organisations dedicated to women and girls. That must change. At The Circle, we know that when we invest in women, we lift up entire communities. With every donation, big or small, you become part of that change. And through Big Give, your contribution (up to £5000) is doubled. 🔗Make a donation and have your impact doubled from 10-17 Oct: https://lnkd.in/eUAnZBMT #GlobalFeminism #Feminism #WomensRights #HumanRights #GlobalFeminist #StandForDignity #WomenEmpowerment #EqualityMatters #FeministVoices #GenderJustice #TheCircle #EveryDayIsWomensDay #BigGive

Did you know that half of women in the U.S. are single due to being widowed, divorced, or having never married? If you, as a charity leader can identify and speak to the unique needs of women, the opportunity exists for you to empower their giving, legacy planning, and finish-line focus in dramatic ways. Legacy may mean something entirely different to them than it did to their parents or their spouses. In this webinar, we’ll consider what it looks like for charities to serve women givers with greater intentionality and understanding – especially engaging those who are going it alone. 🩷 Help DFSO Fight the Pink Tax! 🩷 You've noticed there's a tendency for products marketed specifically toward women to be more expensive than those marketed toward men, right? This additional cost is known as the "Pink Tax," and it makes it harder for Dress for Success Oregon clients to get the personal care items they need. At DFSO, we’re asking YOU to help make a difference by hosting a donation drive at your workplace for essential personal care items. 🛁 We Need These New & Unused Items: Bras & Undergarments Shampoo & Conditioner Body Wash Lotions & Moisturizer Shaving Products Hosting a donation drive is simple and impactful. Rally your colleagues, set up a collection point, and spread the word. Every item donated helps a woman in need look and feel her best, empowering her to achieve economic independence. To register, just click on the "Host a Donation Drive" link in the DFSO bio. #FightThePinkTax #DressForSuccessOregon #EmpowerWomen #DonationDrive #CommunitySupport https://lnkd.in/gUrfbZ8i
