I want to share some resources sent to me to help parents struggling with how to talk to their kids about the terrorist attacks in Israel. Here are 10 tips given by the National Association of School Psychologists to help children and youth navigate this difficult time. 💜Reassure children that they are safe. Remind them that you and other adults are there to protect them. 💜Validate children's feelings. Explain that all feelings are okay when a tragedy occurs and that many adults are working to address the problem. 💜Make time to talk. Let children's questions be your guide as to how much information to provide. 💜Keep your explanations developmentally appropriate. Review safety procedures. 💜Observe children's emotional state. Some children may not express their concerns verbally. 💜Limit access to television and social media attention to these events Correct misinformation. 💜Maintain a normal routine 💜Talk about steps your family can take to make a positive difference. The ability to take action, even in small ways, can help reduce anxiety and promote resilience

It’s cold, it’s dark, it’s dangerous… Going to events like concerts and performances during the winter months come with extra risks. That means you need to take extra precautions. ❗ Remember to share this information with those around you, it could make the world of a difference in these situations! 1️⃣ Wear an item of BRIGHT and recognisable clothing 2️⃣ Have your phone location on for your friends/family, and let them know where you’ll be! 3️⃣ Establish a meeting point if you’re going to an event with someone 4️⃣ Know where you can find security or police officers at the event 5️⃣ Locate the medical tent so you know where to go in case of injury 6️⃣ Invest in an emergency whistle 7️⃣ Bring a torch. If you’re walking back from somewhere, you want to be VISIBLE Shockingly, so many events don’t have safeguarding in place, making it even more IMPERATIVE that you know how to protect yourself, when others aren't. January is National Stalking Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about this often misunderstood form of gender-based violence. Stalking is a pattern of repeated and unwanted attention, harassment, contact, or any other course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to feel fear. Maybe that's unwanted phone calls, texts, or social media messages that won't stop. It could be unwanted gifts, showing up/approaching an person or their family and friends. In some cases, stalking can look like monitoring, surveillance, property damage, and threats. This week is National Stalking Awareness Week What is stalking? Stalking is a pattern of repeated and persistent unwanted behaviour that is intrusive and engenders fear, it is when one person becomes fixated or obsessed with another and the attention is unwanted. Threats may not be made but victims may still feel scared. Importantly threats are not required for the criminal offence of stalking to be prosecuted. A simple way to identify stalking behaviour is by using the mnemonic FOUR.
