When I was in my early 20’s, closer to the time I moved from my small town to the bustling capital of New Delhi, I realised I wanted to grow old. Around the time I reached adulthood, I wanted to blow my candles quick! I wanted to be in my 40’s. 20 years back, I didn’t see youth as a privilege. I saw it as a grind. I was hustling. I wanted that hustle that move to the next stage where I didn’t have to prove myself. I had seen my college seniors and then older colleagues at work, many of them women who seemed more in control of their lives, their minds and their presence. I wanted that poise. That confidence to be myself in my skin. To be a contributor. To have a mind of her own. To be heard. To be available for someone younger. To be a support to another woman or even a man in work or in life. To be something. To be someone! Now, in my 40’s, I’m also grateful for the youth that didn’t create a mirage of my own worth. I wasn’t trapped in my love for my youth. I love ageing. I love my greys, my wrinkles and everything else. I came late to the fitness party. And that’s the only small niggle I carry. Maybe I could have started a decade earlier. But then, when I look at my own story…of someone struggling to win against time, find purpose and push my own boundaries, my mental fitness was my primary priority. As workplaces grow and swell, it’s important to have these conversations. I can imagine insecurities, doubts and ideas of longevity can step into the best of us. As workforces change, let’s look at what do we mean by ‘prime’. Let’s talk about ageism. Wisdom. Experience. Let’s talk about how can we create inter-generational conversations at home, at work and everywhere else! Our stories are a work in progress. How we see it is more important than how we tell it. Ordinary people can become extraordinary in their journey through life. Look around and you’ll see that there are everyday heroes living among us. Nominate an inspiring patient or care partner for the 2025 VF Community Heroes campaign. This international campaign, designed to spread hope and inspiration, honors all the patients and care partners in our lives. Don't forget yourself; there is nothing wrong with celebrating your own resilience. Individuals or groups may nominate a VF Community Hero of any age, but we can accept only one nomination per person. If the VF receives multiple nominations, only the first nomination will be considered. The deadline for all nominations is Feb. 3, 2025. A friendly reminder from the NDUR Team to our Community (and anyone who needs to hear it): As the New Year begins, it’s easy to feel the weight of expectations: resolutions, goals, and the pressure to transform into a ‘new you.’ But let me remind you—there’s nothing wrong with the current you. You don’t have to change anything unless you want to. Your resolutions don’t have to be about stopping something or fixing something. They can be about embracing new joys, nurturing what already makes you happy, or simply giving yourself permission to be. And if you don’t feel like making resolutions at all, that’s perfectly okay, too. This year, let’s celebrate progress in all its forms, even if that’s just staying exactly where you are and giving yourself the grace to rest. You’re enough, just as you are. Here’s to a year of doing what feels right for you. 💛

During the spring semester, DLA held a workshop with our DLA youth and played the DEI card game “The Hand You’re dealt in America” that led to an amazing discussion that transcended race and generations. Remember, DEI doesn’t have to be so serious all the time, you can still learn and grow while laughing and connecting with others.
