When I was in my early 20’s, closer to the time I moved from my small town to the bustling capital of New Delhi, I realised I wanted to grow old. Around the time I reached adulthood, I wanted to blow my candles quick! I wanted to be in my 40’s. 20 years back, I didn’t see youth as a privilege. I saw it as a grind. I was hustling. I wanted that hustle that move to the next stage where I didn’t have to prove myself. I had seen my college seniors and then older colleagues at work, many of them women who seemed more in control of their lives, their minds and their presence. I wanted that poise. That confidence to be myself in my skin. To be a contributor. To have a mind of her own. To be heard. To be available for someone younger. To be a support to another woman or even a man in work or in life. To be something. To be someone! Now, in my 40’s, I’m also grateful for the youth that didn’t create a mirage of my own worth. I wasn’t trapped in my love for my youth. I love ageing. I love my greys, my wrinkles and everything else. I came late to the fitness party. And that’s the only small niggle I carry. Maybe I could have started a decade earlier. But then, when I look at my own story…of someone struggling to win against time, find purpose and push my own boundaries, my mental fitness was my primary priority. As workplaces grow and swell, it’s important to have these conversations. I can imagine insecurities, doubts and ideas of longevity can step into the best of us. As workforces change, let’s look at what do we mean by ‘prime’. Let’s talk about ageism. Wisdom. Experience. Let’s talk about how can we create inter-generational conversations at home, at work and everywhere else! Our stories are a work in progress. How we see it is more important than how we tell it. Lets celebrate growth with strategy

This week is an important beginning of idealistic views of who we are as a people. Wednesday is the celebration of the same date in 1865 when the last slaves were freed in Galveston, Texas. The potential idealism that fueled some during that moment as they headed into a new territory of freedom is overwhelming to imagine. Their dreams of freedom went from feeling like a fantasy to a possibility. And in just over two weeks, we will be celebrating the freedom and independence of our country from another power of dominance and oppression. Back then, there were sets of ideals and principles of a free nation that the founding Americans were willing to die for. But there are similarities in both instances. The days we mark as June 19th and July 4th are worth celebrating, but upon reflection, they also generate a reflection of all the action that was required then and is required now. At a team meeting this morning, there was an interesting ice breaker. Would you rather meet your great, great grandparents or your great, great grandchildren. Put into the context of these next two dates of celebration, I am not sure what would be more enlightening; bringing my great, great grandparents to now or my great, great grandchildren. What would they think of where we are, and the progress we have (and haven't made)? While there will be reminders of the divisiveness over the next two weeks, I plan to reflect with my family and three kids on all that has been accomplished. I plan to re-teach the ideals of what can be for all of us when we care about our fellow citizens and believe in the better world ahead of us. Happy Juneteenth Week, everyone.

It’s a day not only marked by fireworks and festivities but also by remembering the courage, ideals, and spirit of those who fought for our freedom.   As professionals, we often talk about innovation, leadership, and vision—qualities that were embodied by the founders of our nation. These principles continue to inspire us in our workplaces and communities today. Let’s celebrate the opportunities we have to contribute to our nation's progress and the freedom to pursue our dreams. On this special day, we also recognize and welcome those from other nations who join us in celebrating. America’s strength is enriched by its diversity, culture, and individuality which brings a unique perspective that enhances our collective experience.   On this special day, let’s also extend our gratitude to those who serve and have served. Their sacrifices ensure that the freedoms we cherish are preserved and protected.   Enjoy the parades, the barbecues, and the fireworks, but also remember to celebrate safely and responsibly.   Wishing everyone a spectacular 4th of July!
