"I've said this before and I'll say it again: get your horse out of the perfectly manicured arenas. It will contribute to their cross training, their soundness, their confidence, and so much more. Be smart about it, know your horse and take baby steps if you have to. But get your horse out and about."

How do we periodise our training throughout the Year?
We want to keep our learning phases to the off-season and performance phases to the peak season.
Technique and certain forms of Skill Training may be best for when you aren't trying to perform on the course.
For example, if you are a slicer, then working on your technique and widely experimenting to hit a draw may be fun, but it probably won't do wonders for your scorecard.
Likewise, performance training is excellent for getting the most out of current swing and skill levels to shoot the lowest scores possible on the golf course at that time.
However, there will be a ceiling to how good you can get, and you would instead raise your golfing potential with swing changes in the off-season!
Jiu-Jitsu taught me not to care about performance during training, but rather to focus on results in tournaments.
Remember, I was not practicing Jiu-Jitsu as a hobby; I was doing it professionally. With that in mind, I learned that whether I had a great or a terrible training session, it really didn’t matter. What mattered were the results after the tournament. I can’t count how many times I was outperformed by a training partner only to win the tournament a few days later while they lost.
Training sessions are a vehicle for you to identify what is working and what isn’t, and to make adjustments for the most important day: competition day. The results of training sessions literally don’t matter if you achieve good results in the tournament.
And just like in life, how many bad days do we have overall? And do they matter? As long as we stay on course and achieve our goals, do those bad performance days really matter?
I hope this helps you to focus on the long run. Use the training sessions to zoom in and identify your strengths and weaknesses, but then zoom out and keep your focus on the competition days!
Did I expect Alan to run 3:40 and set a PR?
Yes and no.
After a really great Fall which saw Alan set a PR over 26.2, I thought it might be hard to turn around and do it again.
I was wrong.
Alan did really well with his training and did everything I asked of him - and more. Alan cleaned up his diet, got lots of sleep, worked on his strength training, and of course, got in the miles.
We're all proud of you, Alan! Way to go.

Who's the right type of runner for a TWM training plan?
I specialize in helping runners who have a background in running - think a former high school runner - who's now looking to chip off the rust and get back to serious racing.
If you think this is you and you're ready to get back into training, but don't know where to start, I'm here for you.
I offer individualized training plans that help you get from where you are today to where you want to be on race day. My 1 on 1 online training programs are flexible and dial into your exact needs as a runner and a person.
Want to get started? Comment "run" and I'll message you.
Training CNF, the most dangerous discipline. Ready for the World Championships, representing team 🇦🇺
CNF, or Constant Weight No Fins is the most dangerous discipline in freediving. It’s the event where you see the most blackouts, red cards and hypoxia.
Having no fins, or no assist from the rope, you burn a lot more oxygen on the dive, which makes it more likely you’ll reach critically low oxygen before being able to fully recover.
A competition however is the safest place you can dive. A blackout with the right safety isn’t a big concern as generally will have little to impact after a 5-15min recovery. Although the althlete will likely be exhausted for the next day, and shouldn’t dive for at least 24 hours.
I’ve never blacked out, and I hope in this comp I dont. Mostly because it would mean I get 0 points, but if I am ever to blackout, this will be the best place to do it.
For people competitive with CNF generally dive about 80% of the max depth they can do in other dicplines, although some people are so specialized in this discipline it may be their deepest.
In this video I am working on my technique, staying streamlined into arrow position. I am feeling strong. Love you all.
