“DNV: #LNG dominated #alternativefuel ship orderbook in ‘exceptional newbuilding’ year” #VESSELS January 10, 2025, - Ajsa Habibic “Described as the #maritime industry’s “exceptional newbuilding year”, 2024 yielded a record number of #LNGfueledship deliveries, according to the latest data from DNV’s #AlternativeFuelsInsights (#AFI) platform.” “As the #maritimeindustry reinforces its commitment to #decarbonization , the last year was marked by a significant increase in #alternativefueledship orders, with a total of 515 such ships on order (excluding LNG carriers), translating to a 38% year-on-year increase compared to 2023, AFI data shows.” “The container and car carrier segments dominated the orderbook, making up 62% of all alternative fuel orders in 2024.” “While #methanol drove newbuilding orders for #alternativefueledvessels at the beginning of the year, LNG was the industry’s alternative fuel of choice by year-end. The number of #LNGvessel orders placed in 2024 was 264, over double that of 2023 (130), DNV reported.” “However, 2024 also saw #shipping players investing in multiple alternative fuels, resulting in 166 methanol orders (32% of the AFI orderbook), reflecting shipping’s growing interest in a diverse fuel pool as it strives to reduce #greenhousegas (#GHG) emissions. Most of these methanol orders (85) were in the container segment.” “#Ammonia also saw “promising momentum” in the earliest months of the year and continued to grow throughout 2024. A total of 27 orders were placed for #ammoniafueledvessels . The first non-gas carrier ammonia-fueled vessel orders were placed in 2024 (10), mainly in the bulk carrier segment (5). While still in its early stages, this provides further evidence of ammonia’s emergence in the alternative fuel market, DNV stated.” https://lnkd.in/ekHuugjc Source- original post Read all my posts #MariusPreston

Interesting figures coming out of DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insights (AFI) database. Although September was a slow month – only 17 alternative fuelled vessels ordered – a broader view reveals some interesting and encouraging trends. As the third quarter comes to a close, we have now registered a total of 370 new orders for alternative fuelled vessels in 2024, representing growth of 24% compared to the first three quarters of 2023 While methanol accounted for the largest share of new orders in the first half of the year, LNG is now the headline story, surging back with 117 new orders in Q3 to account for 60% of the total figure. The container segment continues to be the main driver of growth in the alternative fuelled fleet, accounting for around two-thirds of all new orders in the third quarter. Gas tankers (26 vessels) and car carriers (13 vessels) accounted for most of the remainder. #AFI #newbuilds #decarbonisation --------------------------------------------------------

The latest data from DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insights (#AFI) database is in and the numbers make for interesting reading. A total of 97 alternative fuelled vessels were ordered in October, making it the strongest order month ever. Momentum has clearly been building since the summer months, and this is being led by LNG. A total of 177 orders for LNG fuelled vessels have now been placed in the second half of the year, including 66 in October, with most of these coming from the container segment. Methanol has also remained resilient, with 29 orders in October (mostly bulkers). This brings this year’s total to 162, already surpassing the 160 methanol fuelled vessels ordered in 2023. Overall, 464 new orders for alternative fuelled vessels have been placed in the first 10 months of 2024, representing a year-on-year growth of 46%. #AFI #newbuilds #decarbonisation -------------------------------------------------------------

📍#LNGAlternativeFuels📍 ✅ Methanol trumps LNG 📈 as the alternative fuel of choice for newbuildings this year. ✅ Methanol is the most popular choice for more than half the 23 alternative-fuelled newbuildings 🏗 contracted in April, and accounts for most of the dual-fuelled 🔥 orders this year, according to DNV. ✅ The classification society’s monthly summary from its AFI platform records 1️⃣2️⃣ methanol-fuelled vessels ordered in April, all of which were tankers. 📌 Source : TradeWinds #lng #lngindustry #lngshipping #maritime #accidentinvestigation #safety #management
