10,000 nautical miles over 10 years - measuring, benchmarking, monitoring, reporting on exactly what is happening to our oceans in areas that are seldom if at all sampled. Areas which for over 70 years have been accepted as the indicator regions of our planet - CRITICAL scientific data collected and portrayed in near real time - at a CRUCIAL time. Without this how do we know that anything we are doing in terms of mitigating climate change is actually working? Our CEO, Explorer, Jim McNeill, explains "I'm someone who likes to do my homework properly and in September last year I led our Foundation Expedition in preparation for our Resolute Expeditions. It was all about finding out how to use the SV Linden for 10 years of scientific exploration." Polar bears, the majestic inhabitants of the Arctic's vast expanse, serve as both symbols and sentinels of the region's profound transformations due to climate change. These animals, whose home ranges can span up to 135,000 square miles, wander freely across the Arctic sea-ice, traversing international borders and embodying the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the region. The shrinking ice cover is opening up new maritime routes, shortening shipping distances between major markets. However, these routes are fraught with geopolitical tensions, as Arctic nations vie for control over the newly accessible resources and strategic waterways. The decline of sea ice is a double-edged sword: while it offers economic opportunities, it also accelerates the loss of critical habitats for species like polar bears and seals, destabilizing the entire Arctic ecosystem.
