Street design plays a pivotal role in shaping the pedestrian experience by influencing both safety and comfort. Well-designed streets with wide, unobstructed sidewalks, crosswalks, and buffer zones between traffic and pedestrians encourage walking, creating a safe and inviting environment. Features like traffic calming measures, such as speed bumps or curb extensions, can slow down vehicles, reducing the risk of accidents. Proper lighting, clear signage, and accessibility for all individuals, including those with disabilities, further enhance pedestrian safety. When streets prioritize human movement over vehicular traffic, people are more likely to walk, promoting a sense of community and reducing reliance on cars.
