New Research: Exploring the audience-narrative landscape for education in the U.S. Most people don’t always draw the connection between “my school” and how the government, and their role as voters, helps shape education policy. We recently teamed up with murmuration to establish a narrative foundation that can connect these “big” and “little” stories about education and schools and point us toward a future where the public education system in the U.S. works for every student. Highlights include: • Education is a “daylight” issue, one that separates substantially from partisanship, likely because education affects so many of us every day as students and as parents. Values define audiences, not policies. • Voters who say that education is their top “political issue” are also the least likely to turn out to vote. • “Culture war” narratives around education and schools appeal mostly to politically engaged audiences. • The stories less political audiences seek out about education are about its characters: teachers and students. • Audiences have specific narratives of education, and bring their personal school stories to “education” messaging. ✨The Data Culture Coach ✨ Inspiring possibilities ~ Raising the ceiling ~ Normalizing healthy, cohesive cultures ~ Guiding expertise to clarity ~ Building leadership confidence🎯
Students first, always. You can refute the data that clearly outlines the need for student-centered decision-making. As you plan for next year, how do you ensure your decisions honor students’ needs over adult wants? What are your checks and balances?
Too often, school budgets focus on adult priorities, not student needs. We believe a transformative shift is necessary. Our partners at Our Turn have released a groundbreaking report, "Transforming Education Through Student Engagement in School Budgeting,” that explores how our school systems can ensure students are active co-pilots in shaping their educational experience. EdLoC is proud to co-host an exclusive briefing on the report for our members. Please join us and Our Turn on Wednesday, May 8, 4:00 p.m. ET / 1:00 p.m. PT. Facilitated by inspiring student leaders, our conversation will dive into: ➡️ The impact of student disenfranchisement in budgeting and how it affects educational quality and student satisfaction. ➡️ A practical roadmap to guide you in engaging students in decisions that shape their future. ➡️ Real-world examples and strategies for creating a more democratic and responsive school system. Space is limited for this private event. Visit https://bit.ly/3wlOmIU to RSVP by May 3rd to secure your spot. #WeAreEdLoC
