A Narrative of Growth and Exploration In the ever-evolving landscape of technology and innovation, embarking on the ALX program has been a transformative experience. This journey began with an air of anticipation and a thirst for knowledge, marking the start of a profound chapter in my professional development. The ALX program, renowned for its commitment to nurturing the next generation of African leaders in tech, presented an opportunity to dive deep into the heart of technology. From day one, it was clear that this was not an ordinary educational experience. The program's design, blending theory with practical application, immediately sets the tone for a dynamic and immersive learning environment. Navigating through the program, I encountered a series of challenges that pushed me to my limits. Each module meticulously crafted to test and expand our skill sets. The support system, consisting of mentors and peers, played a pivotal role in overcoming hurdles. Collaboration, not competition, became the guiding principle, fostering a community of learners united in their pursuit of excellence. Beyond the technical aspects, the ALX program emphasized the importance of networking. As I continue to advance through the program, I carry with me a renewed sense of purpose. The ALX experience has equipped me with the tools to make a meaningful impact in the tech industry, and I look forward to applying these lessons to drive change and innovation on the African continent and beyond. Deciding on what courses to follow when there is a need for digital upskilling, or an imperative, to #upskill, is no easy and evident matter. Should you deepen your skills in applications you already know to some extent? Or should you acquire skills in other applications? Or should you move outside of the #digitalskills domain (or ecosystem) into a different domain, e.g. from 'sector user digital skills' into the space of #ICT practitioner skills? In order to be in a position to make an informed and well-considered choice in your digital skills upskilling journey, it is useful (i) to make use of a unified digital skills framework that sets out the various digital skills domains in their relationship to each other, and (ii) to understand where you currently are regarding the nature and level of your digital skills on such a framework, as well as which pathways lead from that point to where you want to be. Digital Skills Framework One (DSFOne) incorporates in one unified digital skills framework: #digitalliteracy; the conceptual space for its use in various sectors and at various levels; ICT practitioner skills; #digitalleadership skills; and the skills linked to #emergingtechnologies. DSFOne, together with an overview of its various components, is contained in a recent report about a process of wide consultation and validation discussions on the framework. (See below.) The report and framework are available under a digital commons licence and are therefore free to use. Using a unified digital skills framework brings some order and structure to the seemingly innumerable uses and contexts of #digitaldevices and #applications. This structure, in turn, provides the pointers to identify pathways towards the forms of upskilling that are most appropriate.

SeeMeCV was thrilled to be invited to Accredify’s inaugural Regional Education Briefing last week. The event kicked off with an opening address by Guest of Honour, Mr. Kiat How Tan, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information as he shared insights on the growing importance of skills in the global economy and how crucial it is for regional stakeholders to develop and collaborate on improving qualifications and verification processes that will strengthen digital trust in the region’s education and training ecosystem. The briefing brought together regional partners including Ms Heather Yuan 袁伟平, Manager of International Promotion Department, CSSD (Center for Student Services and Development, Ministry of Education, P.R. China), Mr Thomas Tharakan, Head of Business Development, VFS Global, Mr Isaac Munandar, Co-founder and CEO, MAXY Academy, Mr Gerric Gomez, VP for Business Development and Growth Markets, C & E Publishing, Inc. and Mr David Padgett, Founder, SeeMeCV. In the Fireside chat, it was inspiring to learn from Dr. Yoke Sin Chong as she shared her lifelong learning journey - she continues to learn and pick up new skills even today. The panel discussion, joined by Jan Tan, Assistant Director, Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP), Patrice Choong, Chief Data Officer, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Whee Teck ONG, Partner, EY, and ZuHui Yap, HR Director, Singtel - led to a lively discussion on the ways to bridge gaps and align curricula in a skills-based economy.
