This enables us to expand our climate protection activities in a targeted manner based on the latest climate protection science. 👩🔬 📅 In February 2023, we submitted our near-term decarbonization strategy to SBTi – including specific targets for Scopes 1, 2, and 3. After a 15-month validation process, we successfully passed this process. The SBTi validation affirms that our climate protection targets with the defined measures are in line with the Paris Climate Agreement to limit the global rise in temperature: 𝟭. 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝟭+𝟮 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁: “Liveo Research AG commits to reduce absolute scope 1+2 GHG (greenhouse gases) emissions 33.6% by 2028 from a 2021 base year.” 𝟮. 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝟯 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁: “Liveo Research AG commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 25% by 2028 from a 2021 base year.” The submission of these climate targets at SBTi was preceded by a comprehensive analysis of our carbon footprint across business units and production sites worldwide. This process was followed by close collaboration with key suppliers, customers and other stakeholders to understand and define what are the most advanced techniques and technologies that we can implement over time to set ambitious reduction targets within the industry. Based on this, we then defined specific sub-targets, action plans and KPIs to track progress. 📈 On one hand, some of the main actions that we are focusing on to achieve the Scope 1 and 2 targets include increasing the use of green energy and improving production efficiency at production sites. On the other hand, to achieve the Scope 3 target, we are, among other measures, working closely with key suppliers to drastically reduce the carbon footprint of raw materials (such as PCR materials), reduce the amount of waste at production sites, and develop sustainable solutions in all business units to reduce waste and carbon footprint from design to end of life (e.g., “Cut The Waste!” services, One-Material Blisters (OMB), medical packaging with Post-consumer recycled content). "We are very proud of this scientifically sound validation of our climate protection targets by the SBTi – this confirmation shows that we, as a comparatively small company, are taking on a pioneering role in climate protection and thus fulfilling our social responsibility," says Dr. Carsten Heldmann, CEO of Liveo Research. He adds: "Our detailed sustainability strategy and its consistent implementation in all areas of the company also show that we take our commitment to sustainability seriously overall." #liveoresearch #liveo #SBTi #ScienceBasedTargets #decarbonization

Net zero regulations and sustainability initiatives are pivotal in addressing climate change and environmental degradation. Net Zero Regulations 1. Definition: Achieving net zero involves balancing the amount of greenhouse gases emitted with an equivalent amount removed from the atmosphere, resulting in a net zero impact on global warming. 2. Global Commitments: - Paris Agreement: Many countries have committed to limiting global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, with efforts to limit the increase to 1.5°C. - National Targets: Various countries have set specific targets for achieving net zero emissions, often by 2050. For instance, the European Union, UK, Canada, and Japan have set legally binding net zero targets. 3. Policy Measures: - Carbon Pricing: Implementing carbon taxes or cap-and-trade systems to incentivize emission reductions. - Regulations and Standards: Setting emissions standards for industries, vehicles, and buildings. - Subsidies and Incentives: Offering financial incentives for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green technologies. Sustainability Initiatives 1. Renewable Energy: Transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower to reduce carbon emissions. 2. Energy Efficiency: Improving energy efficiency in buildings, industries, and transportation to reduce overall energy consumption. 3. Sustainable Agriculture: Promoting practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve water, and protect biodiversity. 4. Circular Economy: Encouraging the reuse, recycling, and repurposing of materials to minimize waste and reduce resource consumption. 5. Corporate Responsibility: Many companies are setting their own net zero targets and integrating sustainability into their business models. This includes adopting sustainable supply chain practices, reducing waste, and investing in green technologies. 6. Public Awareness and Education: Raising awareness and educating the public about the importance of sustainability and how individuals can contribute to achieving net zero goals. Challenges 1. Economic Impact: Transitioning to a net zero economy can have significant economic impacts, particularly on industries reliant on fossil fuels. Ensuring a just transition that supports workers and communities is crucial. 2. Technological Development: Developing and scaling up new technologies for carbon capture and storage, renewable energy, and energy efficiency is essential. 3. Global Cooperation: Climate change is a global issue requiring coordinated efforts across nations. Conclusion Net zero regulations and sustainability initiatives are essential for mitigating climate change and ensuring a sustainable future. Governments, businesses, and individuals all play a critical role in this transition, which requires a combination of regulatory measures, technological innovation, and behavioral changes.

#COP28 is bringing world governments to face a chilling reality: that the #climate crisis is real and it's moving at an alarming pace. According to the Global Carbon Budget, 37.2 gigatons of CO2 emissions were estimated in 2023. Sherry Madera, CEO of the not-for-profit CDP that runs a global environmental disclosure system, points out that while immediate rapid and deep emissions cuts are critical, "there can be no new investment in fossil fuels." Renewable energy has to become the new norm before it is too late. However, the road to #sustainability demands more than promises. Madera emphasizes the critical role of quality data from the private sector. Only 1% of companies disclose a credible plan for emission reduction. It's time for corporations and nations not just to pledge but meticulously plan and act for a greener, sustainable future. Click to read the full story.

Defining a New Vision for Corporate Climate Action - A case study Are you wondering how to drive climate action with a leading strategy? Then I recommend taking a few minutes to read the Boston Consultancy Group (BCG) case study that was published by @Pachama a few days ago. Find out how BCG sets targets, balances decarbonization with abatement and approaches nature-based investments. Their net-zero strategy is built on two key elements: reduction and removal. Reduction through cutting its emissions intensity in half by 2025 against a 2018 baseline - a target validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as aligned with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. Any emissions that can’t be reduced by 2030 will be removed using the most effective nature-based and engineered carbon removal solutions on the market. BCG recognizes that nature is one of the solutions that can remove carbon right now, and that it will play a prominent role in the next ten years because that’s where a lot of the carbon can be removed or avoided. To build a nature portfolio it has partnered with @Pachama to source high-quality projects. Its approach is investing capital into planting new forests, as well as protecting existing, long-standing forests. Its portfolio today comprises a mix of avoidance and removal credits, but the plan is to transition to 100% removal credits by 2030. Worth the read for those of us who wonder how to drive climate action within their organization and lead or instigate the transition!

Net zero and net zero carbon emissions is a target that organisations set to reduce their contribution to climate change. The goal is to achieve a balance between the number of greenhouse gases they emit and the amount they remove from the atmosphere. This can be done through a variety of means, such as planting trees, investing in renewable energy, or using more efficient technology. Organisations that have committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 include the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Many corporations have also made this pledge, including Shell, Google, General Motors, and Ikea. Achieving net zero carbon emissions is seen as an important step in combating climate change and its effects on the planet. It is also seen as a way to ensure a more sustainable future for generations to come.
