The owner was on a call to her accountant when I turned up to check-out of our beautiful accommodation in Crete. She apologised. I said, "It's totally fine, this is my line of work, I understand". We then had a great 10 minutes discussing how their Government has made a lot of changes (digitalisation) resulting in them working on the books daily, to ensure the till is correct and no paperwork is missing. Being so up to date prevents fines, and whilst she said the requirements are quite demanding, it is helping them. Every morning, we saw the same group of local gentlemen sitting with the owners over coffee.☕️ I learned they are good friends, but are also accountants, and that their chat usually switches to discussing the takings, reconciling and taxes. Chatting about profit margins and systems is fascinating when you love what you do.
