Like many charities, Cue and Review "Print Speaking to the Blind" is going through a period of change. With the cost of living crisis, we are looking at the best use of our facilities.   Your thoughts on our current 1793 square feet occupancy on the ground floor are not just valuable, they are crucial to our decision-making process. We believe that the power of collective wisdom and your input could shape the future of our facilities. Could we potentially collaborate with other local charities to transform this into a downstairs hot desking facility, or could we explore the option of renting the space to commercial tenants and using a much smaller office upstairs? To raise £2.5 million over the next three years for two outstanding organisations: Band of Builders and Construction Sport Band of Builders offers a lifeline to our colleagues in need, providing practical assistance, financial support, and mental health services. Construction Sport, on the other hand, promotes wellbeing through the power of physical activity and community. Together, they're tackling this crisis from all angles. Mental health struggles are something both Tom and I have personal experience with. We're committed to donating a minimum of £10 for every stair we sell in 2025, split between these two incredible causes. It's our way of giving back and making a tangible difference in our industry. It’s amazing how an organized space can clear your mind! 🧠 This weekend, I took on the challenge of decluttering my garage—a project long overdue! I went to The Container Store and got all of the essentials to tackle the chaos. After hours of sorting, I discarded the unnecessary and donated items still in good condition. The result? A transformed space that not only looked great, but made me feel lighter and less stressed. 🙌🏼 It’s a good habit to create spaces that contain exactly what they are supposed to. Let me take you on journey into time..... ⏰   Actually, it’s a journey into a run down, crooked, wonky building in Sheffield that is planned to be transformed into a community hub eco coffee shop for a local charity.    It’s a full retrofit, generally in accordance with the recommendations of PAS 2038. Aiming to use a heat pump and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery to reduce carbon emissions and keep the occupants nice and cosy. Initially, I was a little uncertain if using a heat pump was the right thing to do, because of the potentially high running costs for a charity organisation with limited funds and limited income. On reflection I think this is the absolutely right thing to do. This decision was led by the client and I have helped facilitate this, I hope.    Part of the brief and business case for this project is to create an accessible, homely, welcoming environment, that all people can come to, creating and serving food and drink at prices that aren’t crazy. Unlike some of the major competitors, the corporate brands that you might see usually on the high street    The project has been split into three phases: Phase 1️⃣ = critical structural repairs and stripping out.  Phase 2️⃣ = internal fit out, floors, stairs, doors, windows, partitions, insulation, air tightness, electrics, heating and ventilation etc.  Phase 3️⃣ = custom furniture such as the servery, booth seating, fixed seating, feature slatted ceiling and finishes.    The Phase 1 work is nearly complete now and we are hoping to move into Phase 2 soon, subject to raising sufficient funds.    The charity is called Open House Trust and they are still raising funds for the Phase 2 and Phase 3 works.
