It was a privilege to be the opening speaker at the #biocap Conference today at Alderley Park. I was happy to share that angel investors typically contribute around 10% of all UK life science investments (Beauhurst) and that 30%+ of angels surveyed by the UK Business Angels Association had invested in lifesciences in their portfolios. The best I saved until last.... Whilst the sector, like the wider environment, is experiencing some investment headwinds in 2022/23, the number of investments going to co-led and female founded life-science teams is INCREASING. ***No of deals in 2021 . All male 384. Mixed 91 and All female 36 ***No of deals in 2022. All male 345. Mixed 100. All female 41. ***There are six regions in the UK where more than 30% of the total number of investments in 2022 went to mixed and all female teams; South East, Scotland, North West, South West, West Midlands and North East. (Source Beauhurst). A positive message for the sector, investment community and for all female founders.
