It’s #FarmSafetyWeek and as part of Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) campaign my suggestion to improve our industry’s appalling safety record is to think twice about undertaking lone working when you know it’s dangerous. Take 5 minutes or even 5 seconds to STOP & THINK about what you’re about to do - and then decide whether it’s worth risking serious injury or death.

🚨Today: the start of #FarmSafetyWeek.🚨 It’s going to be a tight harvest, making use of weather windows and working round the clock. When we are short of time it’s tempting to cut corners; and that’s when accidents are more likely to happen. Toolbox talks are the best way for management to disseminate safety information, particularly as we head into this busy period and the use of more temporary staff and contractors. Consultants, land agents, brokers and anyone else who is face to face with farmers should mention farm safety week to their clients and friends to kickstart a discussion. 27 fatalities on farms in the last year is too many. Everyone has the right to #ComeHomeSafe Photograph of our typical British barley harvest this weekend.
