We all have internal narratives that run like endless loops in our minds. There are two that are common and harmful. 1. Scarcity Mindset: A belief that we pursue something that only a few can obtain. This mindset leads to envy, territorialism, destructive competition, and distrust, which in turn leads to anxiety and a loss of mental well-being. 2. Extrinsic Validation Mindset: A belief that our achievements and possessions create our value. These outward (extrinsic) motivations cause us to dismiss the intrinsic value of every human being and to ignore our deep desire to be valued, belong, and loved for who we are. Most personal and organizational suboptimization can be linked to these two mindsets. The two ways of thinking limit our effectiveness, create a hostile work culture, and harm our society. Do your part in denying the mindset residency in your thinking and work diligently to convince others to do the same. "Then I observed that most people are motivated to succeed because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless - like chasing the wind." Ecclesiastes 4:4

𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 In the journey towards success, surrounding ourselves with positive and supportive individuals is key. However, it's important to acknowledge that toxic people can occasionally cross our path. Identifying these types and knowing how to manage them can save us from unnecessary stress and conflicts. Here are a few toxic personas and strategies to handle them: 1️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫: Some individuals consistently exude negativity, draining energy from those around them. Limit your exposure to their pessimism, and counteract their influence with your own positive mindset. 2️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭: Thief: These individuals are quick to claim credit for the work of others. Maintain clear communication and document your contributions to ensure proper recognition. 3️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 : Manipulative people often try to control situations to their advantage. Stay vigilant, trust your instincts, and maintain your boundaries. 4️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜: Constructive criticism is valuable, but constant criticism can be demoralizing. Address their concerns professionally, and focus on the feedback that genuinely helps you grow. 5️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 : Drama seekers thrive on chaos. It's not a problem, it's a puzzle! Words shape conversations and relationships and, above all, they shape your mindset. I heard this from Jim Kwik, quoting the famous music producer Quincy Jones: "That's why I was always maniacal about transforming every problem into a puzzle which I can solve. I can solve a puzzle—a problem just stresses me out.” I love the attitude! The mindset! I remember back in the days at Procter & Gamble. We learned that there were no problems, just opportunities. Of course, as young professionals, we would cynically joke about that soft-speak. But now, a "few" years later, I have to agree: language shapes attitude and mindset. A problem is an opportunity, and the best ones are puzzles to be solved. We don't deny or overlook them. We approach them with a challenger attitude!

If there is something that paralyzed me for a long time, it’s the influence of the quote, “What will people say?” We were taught that people’s opinions should somehow take precedence over our own reality, and what a crippling burden that can be. This mindset will show up in your work life when you should be bold or state your opinion. It took me over a decade to “not care,” and if I’m being honest, I’m not quite there 100%. Nothing should hold you back though NOTHING! When we allow the fear of "What will people say?" to dictate our actions, we limit our potential and hinder our progress. This mindset will show up in your personal life when you should be setting clear boundaries and communicating any discomfort. It limits you and Instead of embracing opportunities to lead and make impactful decisions, we find ourselves stuck in a cycle of self-doubt and conformity. This mindset can be particularly detrimental. To achieve success and fulfillment, it is crucial to break free from the shackles of external validation. Being bold and assertive, and trusting in our abilities and perspectives, can open doors to new opportunities and growth. Beware of the language and labels you use to describe yourself! 💡 How you speak to, and about, yourself matters. The very labels you cling to could secretly sabotage your growth. How? We’ve all heard phrases like: 💬 "I know I'm controlling, but..." 💬 "I know I have a short temper, but..." 💬 "I know I can be a doormat, but..." 💬 "I know I'm hyper-sensitive, but..." Seems self-aware, right? But what if I told you these statements might be more like defense mechanisms in disguise? You see, it’s all too easy to fall into the trap of thinking, "Well, I've acknowledged the issue. That's half the battle, right?" Wrong! 🚫 Awareness is just the beginning. The first hard-fought milestone. But true emotional intelligence calls for more than just acknowledging your quirks and shortcomings. It asks you to TAKE ACTION. To go beyond awareness, and venture into the realm of growth. 💡 Here's the deal: those labels—those well-worn shields—might have served a purpose once, if we don’t eventually put them down, they can limit our potential. It's not enough to say, "I'm aware of my issues." It’s time to declare, "I'm aware, AND I'm actively working on them." And THAT takes acceptance, intention, empathy, and most of all: PRACTICE.
