While progress has been made, women remain underrepresented in top leadership positions across various industries. Unconscious stereotypes and prejudices about women's capabilities and suitability for leadership roles can influence hiring, promotion decisions, and opportunities for advancement. Societal norms often place a disproportionate burden of childcare and domestic responsibilities on women. Thank you so much to Marcia Brissett-Bailey BSc, PG Dip (QCG), MA,IPSEA for an insightful, open, and buoyant talk about being dyslexic and multiple intersections! And thank you to AbilityRE and Gerald Eve for organising and hosting the event. I learnt more about dyslexia, whilst bringing home the challenges, complexity, and upsides of intersectionality across neurodivergence and other characteristics and experiences. Hearing lived experiences from people who have overcome the challenges they faced earlier on, and still face, is such a powerful and relatable way to introduce new topics and connect with people. It was also the first time since learning I’m autistic I have knowingly been in a room with predominantly neurodivergent people. In some respects I found this daunting as each form of neurodivergence has its quirks, and each individual is unique. But I loved the diversity and enjoyed being in a safe space with equally different and unique people. In addition to the personal, a few practical takeaways from the evening include: 💡Companies and educational organisations need to do so much more than they are now. 💡Positive company culture and inclusivity are fundamental to a successful workplace. It stems from senior leadership down to grass roots, and helps to meet in the middle. 💡There is a lack of diversity and representation for neurodivergent people. 💡On-going training is vital to support on neurodiversity, inclusion, equity and diversity. Even though it may be tiring and challenging, keep on pushing for what we need and what we deserve. #neurodiversity #neurodivergence #dyslexia #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #resilience #EDI #intersectionality
