The African data centre market is expected to experience extensive growth over the next two years. The Africa Data Centres Association (ADCA) and The Oxford Business Group (OBD) have co-authored a report ‘The Data Centres in Africa’ which investigates data centre development across the continent and suggests up to a 50% capacity increase by 2026. While it is clear that there are a range of technical and regulatory issues that the African data centre market will need to overcome, the continent stands poised to offer significant opportunities.

Africa’s data centre market is projected to reach over $7 billion by 2028 Demand for data centres across the continent is growing rapidly, offering huge potential for investors, technology companies and local businesses. Africa’s data centre market is set to become a key driver of economic growth, job creation and social progress. However, the growth of data centre’s doesn’t come without it’s unique challenges. In May 2024, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) announced that at least 300MW of capacity would be provided to the Singapore market in the near future. The Singapore Data Centre market remains one of the key regional data centre hubs in APAC. The DC-CFA programme - which signalled the end of the moratorium - previously awarded four data centre operators with an additional 80MW of capacity in July 2023.
