🗣 Speaking of shifting industries: A solid onboarding plan is crucial to your success.. ⭐ 👀 Seeing AEs leave due to poor onboarding is just unacceptable. 👎 Here’s how to ensure you’re getting the most out of your first few months: 💭 Don’t initially focus on the product; instead, dive into the problem you’re solving for and what the market is currently doing (refer to my last post) 💭 Listen in on top rep calls and learn how they communicate the value prop   💭 Create a sheet with frequently asked questions and write down the answers 💭 Finally: Review the product to understand how what you’ve learned, fits At times I’ve seen where the product take the lead but without context, you’re lost. 🔎

Struggling to ensure your new hires embrace and follow your best practices? You're not alone. Embracing best practices starts with onboarding beyond the basics. Forget a two-week crash course... In the first 90 days, equip your reps with in-depth product knowledge and a deep understanding of your customer personas. This will ensure they can hit the ground running and generate revenue quickly. A well-designed onboarding program also showcases your scalable processes and aligns your team with how customers buy. Essentially, it equips them for success and creates a strong foundation for future changes. 💪

I don’t want my team to be as overloaded as I am in this picture 🏋️♂️ Every second Thursday, I have bi-weekly 1:1 with the onboarding team at Confect ! In these bi-weekly 1:1’s I fit the format of the meeting to the person I am having the bi-weekly with. We focus on the topics that are important for them instead of using a standard format made by me or developed by some expert. In my view this simple approach works amazing and creates a safe space to develop and make sure everything is well with your team. I note down the actions points from the meeting and make sure we follow-up on these next bi-weekly 🎸

During fall I asked y’all for examples of what a Learning Organization looks like in practice. I got great answers such as ”People take time to explain concepts to those not in the loop” and ”Organized, updated, centralized documentation because they consider new hires and their learning”. Onboarding is a ”first impressions last” kinda thing and sets the tone for anyone joining and after my first weeks at Toca Boca I’ve been seeing several of your examples in practice; 💌 Preboarding with email on accounts, info about the office, who to ask for help. 👋 When joining the internal Slack, I got a Welcomebot message saying "Hi, welcome - here's the 5 min brief on this project, read it to get up to speed!" 🙋♀️ People, especially in senior leadership, have the good habit of starting big meetings with introducing themselves and their role, not assuming people know who they are already. ❓ People continuously explain abbreviations and concepts that are Toca/Gaming specific, so new people (me!) aren't lost in jargon. You could say this sounds like common sense, but we all know that this isn't common practice, especially when joining as a consultant. 😊 Good onboarding and creating grounds for learning takes intention and dedication and I'm impressed so far. The onboarding experience sets the tone for the rest of your employment term. I've just finished day 3 of what has been a really smooth onboarding at Signum Life Science. But boy do I have some horror stories to tell! Here is some of the best and worst I've experienced when joining a new company: 😀 An IT colleague dedicated an entire hour of their time to help me set up logins, VPS, passwords and what not. 💩 "Aren't you a words wizard? Then read the manuals if you have any problems setting up your equipment." --- 😀 There's a plan for what I need to know/do in the first couple of weeks. And it's sent to me before I start working. 💩 "You should find everything you need on the intranet" (Despite combing through 63475867 files, I didn't). --- 😀 I have an assigned buddy to take me around the office making introductions and helping with practical stuff. 💩 "Kindly gather all your questions for our 15 min meeting on Friday." (Me: but how do I get in the building?) --- 😀 Day 2 is an overview of the business units, strategy, financials, KPIs, etc. And also who I'll be working with. 💩 Intro day is not until next month. But how do you write content without knowing what products you're marketing? --- I can see there's a lot of work already now. But having this time to learn about the brands, clients, competitors and all the business basics is the set up for success. Nobody should rush through the onboarding phase. --- P.S. Dread kicking off new projects because it’s fiddly and tiring? Know deep down you should raise your prices, but you’re avoiding it? Scrambling to get prepared every time you start a new project? I’ve got good news for ya. All of those things can be solved by one thing. Your onboarding process. An airtight onboarding process is the key to projects that feel good and clients happily paying premium prices. The problem is… 🟣 Great onboarding calls are hard. You're on the spot and you have one shot at getting all the information you need. (Or you have to send follow ups which feel... less than professional.) 🟣 Kicking off new projects takes time and energy.
