Why are people with anxiety disorder, depression, and other mental challenges over-represented in the C-suite? Is it because these psychological conditions also confer advantages that drive success, or is it because leadership positions stress people out? In my conversation with Morra Aarons-Mele, she makes the case that you can learn to manage the downsides and leverage the upsides of your brain type. Listen to our conversation, and share your experiences below. https://lnkd.in/emVuvdNA
This seems to be a "Me too," moment for the "C-suite" set. Who cannot feel sorry for their good fortune and ability to manufacture relationships to their advantage. Give us a break folks and grow up. Your bias is legendary. Have a good day.
I am far from C-suite, but I am a career switch teaching myself Software Engineering. It is hard work cultivating the discipline to not only learn the very technical craft (I was an English as a Foreign Language teacher before), but also network properly to get the opportunities that are harder for someone without a Computer Science degree to obtain. I had a major bout of depression as a young-ish adult and now have self-diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder. But I have learned coping mechanisms and the importance of recognizing symptoms and acting quickly to handle them. I really like how you referred to them as a superpower! I agree that they have helped me navigate my specific, and sometimes daily, challenges.
Je garderai ceci à l’esprit
Anxiety is never a tactical advantage, please 🙏 just stop the diagnosing

1moThis is a very basic, and perhaps a simplistic, discussion...I don't understand the point really...Abraham Lincoln, for example, went thru tremendous anguish, and challenges most, if not all, of his life...that would be a great highlight...a CEO is not in that capacity, and never will be, unless he or she has Elon Musk's Mars dreams (don't mean to pick on Elon, but really, what slavish torture to live on that planet, and for what?)...just not so, but yes, many responsibilities a CEO has...many hats to wear...
