Indian Wedding Traditions We've Already Planned As wedding planners with over 11 years of experience, we've had the honor of organizing a diverse range of weddings, each with its unique traditions and cultural significance. Among these, Indian weddings stand out for their vibrant ceremonies, rich rituals, and profound cultural heritage. Here, we share some of the beautiful Indian wedding traditions we've had the privilege to plan. Sangeet: A Night of Music and Joy The Sangeet is a lively pre-wedding ceremony where friends and family gather to sing, dance, and celebrate the couple's impending union. This event is filled with musical and dance performances prepared by close relatives and friends. It provides an opportunity for the bride and groom to let loose and have fun before the formalities of the wedding begin. The Sangeet night is all about joy, laughter, and creating unforgettable memories. Haldi: A Ritual of Purification and Prosperity The Haldi ceremony is a cherished ritual performed on both the bride's and groom's sides, usually one or two days before the wedding. During this ceremony, a mixture of turmeric, rose water, and other auspicious ingredients is applied to the couple's skin. This practice is believed to bring a radiant glow to their skin and purify their bodies in preparation for the wedding. The Haldi ceremony is not only a ritual of beautification but also a time for familial bonding and blessings. Anand Karaj: The Ceremony of Bliss The Anand Karaj, meaning "Ceremony of Bliss," is a sacred Sikh wedding ritual. During this ceremony, the couple exchanges matrimonial vows and makes four rounds around the Guru Granth Sahib, the central religious scripture of Sikhism, while sacred scriptures are recited. The Anand Karaj emphasizes values such as equality, love, and mutual devotion, reflecting the core principles of Sikh marriage. This solemn yet joyous ceremony underscores the spiritual and emotional commitment of the couple. Over the past 11 years, we've been fortunate to plan numerous Indian weddings, each unique and deeply meaningful. These experiences have enriched our understanding of cultural traditions and reinforced our commitment to creating unforgettable wedding experiences. If you are looking to plan a wedding that honors your cultural heritage while ensuring a seamless and memorable celebration, we are here to help. Let's create magic together and celebrate the beauty of traditions. #IndianWeddings #Destinationwedding #HelloWeddingandEvents #WeddingPlanner

Indian Weddings should be made simple, have always believed in this. Even for my own wedding, I didn't get the wedding cards printed, I had the whatsapp invites, although it became a common after Corona. At the same time, the much hyped "Ambani Wedding" and all the pictures floating on social media showing the never-ending grand celebrations happening in the wedding make me think what kind of an example are they setting for the society. Spending thousand of crores, these desinger clothes and jewellery, calling Hollywood pop stars to perform, inviting all of bollywood in the ceremonies, and what not! The wedding expenses are something that put a lot of parents under pressure when they decide to marry their daughters off. I have seen the househelps taking loans for arranging the so called 'mandatory' gifts for the groom. The hard earned money that they ideally should have saved for their daughter's education is being spent on these society created norms, which does not even guarantee a happy and safe future of their girls. I feel, people who have a strong social presence can really set good and wise examples for people to follow. People do get inspired when they see others doing something good. When a large number of people start following these small steps, it starts to feel a 'Normal' thing, rather than an 'exceptional' thing.

When you’re part of the desi community, you’re instinctively prepared for grandeur. When it comes to weddings, rice ceremonies, thread ceremony or even birthday parties, expect nothing less than a festival. Though I enjoy the colour and joy that it brings, it also makes me extremely tired and cranky. Anything less than making the front page news is unacceptable here and a source of gossip. Minimalism is not part of our culture and heritage, it’s a ‘western concept’ touted by the ‘younger generation’. Now, I like simple and intimate weddings so much better. Though I respect what’s called choice, I never saw the point of big fat Indian weddings. To me, they’re simply a massive waste of time, money and healthy family dynamics all in the name of tradition and culture. If you’re a religious person, by all means, follow the customs as detailed by your particular community. That too translates into a simple intimate wedding while following tradition, with only your loved ones around. However, I never liked the obscene amount of expenditure and ‘social media-worthy’ display that goes into planning a wedding. One might argue, it’s a one-time happy event in your life so why not go all out? I might have agreed, but is it necessary to spend your life savings on everything? Why not save everything for a better future? . . . #substack #newsletter #indianweddings #weddingseason #marriages

Selecting the right officiant for your NJ wedding is more than just ticking a box; it's about finding someone who truly aligns with your celebration vision. Whether it’s the personal connection, ensuring legal requirements are met, or accommodating unique ceremony requests, here are some insights to guide you through. A personal interview with potential officiants can be a game-changer. It's your golden opportunity to gauge if there’s a sync in personality and values. Ensure they're legally authorized in New Jersey, emphasizing that obtaining a marriage license is an independent process. Flexibility is key! Opt for an officiant open to incorporating specific cultural traditions or perhaps, facilitating ceremonies in non-traditional locations. If the process feels overwhelming, consider tapping into the expertise of wedding planners. They offer invaluable insights and have a network of trusted officiants at their fingertips. For those seeking convenience, officiant services like Wedding Officiants NJ provide a wide range of ceremony options, from traditional to non-denominational. Innovations like virtual officiant services cater to couples desiring flexibility, enabling loved ones worldwide to partake in your special day. However, securing your preferred officiant early is crucial, as the best ones tend to book up fast. Remember, planning ahead can turn potential challenges into a seamless experience. Whether through meticulous planning, embracing innovative solutions, or understanding the intricacies of marriage licensing in NJ, selecting the right officiant can significantly impact your wedding day's success. #NJWeddings #WeddingPlanning #OfficiantServices #MarriageLicensing For more insights, go to www.simplemarriages.com

I hope that these tips over the next few days provide inspiration for couples writing their wedding vows, help couples deepen their understanding of their personal commitment to each other and understand any cultural traditions from their heritage. These tips are designed to take couples on a journey through a world of promises and their significance. Vows are a significant part of our human connection. They represent a thoughtful pledge, a binding promise, and a commitment to uphold certain values or principles. These promises can be as personal as we wish when incorporated into our wedding vows. These tips provide ideas on how to write heartfelt and meaningful wedding vows that will capture a couples love story and intentions for the future.
