Earlier this week, I had the privilege of attending the 47th Annual National Food Policy Conference in Washington, DC, where industry leaders and experts gathered to discuss crucial topics such as USDA Food & Nutrition Service, Fresh Produce safety, Food Packaging, School Meals, Food Safety, Climate Change, Ultra-Processed Food, and more. Insightful speakers from organizations like @consumerfed, @cfafoodpolicy, @usda, and @FDAfood shared valuable insights. Did you know that the US imports 18 million lines of food annually, chemical additives have increased by 10% in the last decade, and 20% of the 2.4 million farm workers in the US live below the poverty level? This conference shed light on pressing issues in food security and highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing these challenges. Just posted an article on my blog titled "An introduction to food insecurity, and how we can live more sustainably". An important part of my page, and what I believe in, is that food is a human right. I believe that everyone should have access to nutritious food. However, the reality is all but. Over 820 million people are hungry, even though we produce enough food to feed everyone on Earth. In this article, I shed light on food insecurity, highlighting examples from a developing and developed country. Additionally, I discuss two ways we can live more sustainably, which is an important aspect in tackling global food insecurity. I hope you enjoy the read, I'm keen to hear your thoughts. CIP’s latest Annual Report highlights major advancements in global potato research and food security

This was reported in my weekly update from Gallup today. Not reassuring would be an understatement. "Americans’ confidence in the federal government’s ability to ensure the safety of the U.S. food supply has reached a record low in Gallup’s trend dating back to 1999. The 57% of U.S. adults who now say they have a “great deal” or “fair amount” of confidence in the government to keep the food supply safe is down 11 percentage points from Gallup’s prior reading in 2019. Roughly eight in 10 Americans expressed faith in the government to ensure food safety in Gallup measures from 1999 to 2006. After a massive salmonella outbreak in 2007, about seven in 10 remained confident. Americans’ confidence stayed near that level in 2008 and 2019 before dropping this year." The problem of global food security remains unsolved. The increase in population means a growing demand for food in the world where as the essential factors in food production such as cultivated land and fresh water are decreasing continuously.
