Speed and Efficiency:  In a busy McDonald's, working together is the key to getting things done quickly. Today, NoHo Hospitality Group hosted the Service Olympics at Joe’s Pub, where the company’s best and brightest front of house professionals from each restaurant competed against one another. It was incredible supporting Carne Mare and reuniting with other colleagues who I’ve worked with all over the city, and despite getting SMOKED by The Dutch, nothing compares to the camaraderie that was in the room at Joe’s Pub. Love the commitment this group has to team building, cross collaborating, and plain old fun ways to engage with its front of house staff! What a fantastic weekend we've just had in Prague. Met some incredible people, ate delightful food and saw some wonderful sights. You might well be looking at this picture thinking what's that ugly thing in Blue got to do with this post😜 well that ugly thing in Blue is leaning up against a cow because that is where we were going for dinner. This restaurant offered everything to a very high standard especially the service. The staff were personable, took time with us and made us feel important. It got me thinking as to how many of us have let our standards slip in recent times, how many of us are trying so hard to tick all the boxes for the employer we have forgotten the needs of our customers and how many of us feel we are too busy to take the time required to make the customers feel important. These are tough times and your time is stretched but if we forget the important things like making your customer feel as important as I did in this restaurant then we could end up with no customers to spend time with. I just wanted to remind everybody including me that no matter what it is you do, and no matter who you do it for, make everything you do revolve around your customers because one day they may well be writing a post like this about you. "𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝? 🍕🥗"     Recently while I was watching news from the Palestine, I noticed the kids looking up in the sky, waiting for the helicopters that deliver food packets. What was so shocking is that there were 1000's rushing for food, yet only a few hundred receive. The kids were crying, starved, running around for the food. This was a big reminder of the harsh realities faced by millions worldwide. It struck a chord within me.   🍳 I grew up in a modest, middle-class family, my breakfast usually consisted of Idly or Dosa, while lunch and dinner comprised Rice with Sambar, Rasam, or some curry. Weekends were reserved for a special treat of fish or chicken. I bet many of you can relate to this food journey, with regional variations across India.   However, my gastronomic landscape took a dramatic turn when I stepped into the corporate world. Suddenly, I found myself indulging in 🍕, 🍗, and a myriad of 🍝 and 🥢 delicacies during team lunches or dinners.   Ever wondered why companies organize these team meals?   Beyond merely satiating our hunger, team lunches serve a greater purpose – fostering #camaraderie, encouraging socialization outside the confines of the office.   A Team lunch has few stages:   𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 1: When my friend Vishwanath enters the restaurant, he has the habit of ordering cuisine with intriguing titles, such as the 'Devil's food' (which, incidentally, was just a regular vegetable curry in one restaurant). Most of us lose our senses and order items from the menu that we rarely get to taste at home. There's still nothing guilty about that.   𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 2: We dive into our meals, engaging in lively discussions, comparing flavors, and perhaps poking fun at each other's culinary choices. Desserts become a hot topic of debate, with some eagerly eyeing the sweet treats.   𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 3: Unfortunately, as our appetites decrease, plates often remain half-full, leading to unnecessary food wastage.   But I think we can also do something about this, and this brings me to 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 4 of our team lunches:   1. The “Captain” of the team lunch, please take responsibility for ordering what is truly required. 2. If there is leftover food, please share it among the members and either finish it or pack it.   My big shoutout to all the employees (irrespective of your titles), kindly remind yourselves again:" 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐥, 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠".   Today, reducing food waste isn't just a personal choice; it's a collective #socialresponsibility. After 13 incredible years, a few weeks ago, I ended my journey at Restaurant Brands International. Over those years, I was able to play a small role in bringing our amazing food and experience to guests around the world with Burger King, Tim Hortons and Firehouse Subs. More importantly, I got to do it with amazing teams, many of whom have become close partners and friends. There are too many to tag here in a single post, but I want to shout out to a few groups: First, to my current and former Innovation and Marketing teams. Thanks for always taking on any challenge, no matter how impossible it seemed on day one. Remember that great ideas often start with a “No” or blank stare. Special shout out to some of the best ideas that live on only in our phone photo libraries. Second, to the leaders and mentors that always encouraged me to be myself and push beyond what I thought was possible. I have always appreciated that you gave me the freedom to solve our biggest problems with a compass and not a map. Third, to everyone who supported bring our ideas to life at scale. Specifically, those in Operations (I’m probably responsible for my fair share of gray hairs), QA, Procurement, Agency Partners and Suppliers (Thanks for always taking those late Friday phone calls). Finally, our franchisees that operated our restaurants with their teams each day. I was able to take valuable lessons from each interaction that ultimately helped create better plans. What’s the immediate next step? Going to see how well a seven year old soccer team can run a 4-5-1, finally perfect smoking a brisket, scratch a few restaurants off my ever-growing list, and create new family memories. Not sure if Throwback Thursdays are still a thing, but I'll leave you with a photo of me getting ready for my first day in 2011.
