#InternationalSymposium #AntimicrobialStewardshipandOneHealth2023 #DASHtoProtectAntibiotics #DrRajeevSoman #IDPhysicianParExcellence Sharing Dr Rajeev Soman's fantastic talk on Reflective Antimicrobial Prescribing. He is an ID Physician par excellence and is an expert of DASH to protect antibiotics. His superlative talk is a must listen by all prescribers of antimicrobials, Microbiologists and Pharmacists. So totally honored that he graced our symposium and delivered such an impactful talk which was hugely appreciated by the audience. Honoured too that the talk was superbly moderated by the distinguished Prof Sarman Singh, a versatile, multifaceted Microbiologist, administrator and a DASH Expert too. A good clinician needs to understand the nature of the microbes. What is the most likely microbe at a site of infection, what is its likely susceptibility profile, what may be its intrinsic resistance are important points to consider. Excellent clinical acumen is built on good history taking and detailed examination. Information on prior antimicrobial exposure, prior hospitalisation and travel history is also important. A good clinician should order tests which have an intermediate pre-test probability to prevent confusion when a battery of tests come up postive.

Today, our Chair Sheela Upadhyaya, took part in the International Congress on Rare Diseases and Orphan Drugs, organized by Rare Diseases Greece, member of EURORDIS-Rare Diseases Europe. She had the honor of leading a panel discussion on "European Reference Centers (ERNs) and their Research Potential." 🌍🔬 Joining her in this insightful conversation was Prof. Maurizio Scarpa, a valued member of our Steering Group 🤝, Yanis Mimouni, Till Voigtlaender, Karolina Podolska and Alessandra Ferlini. European Reference Networks (ERNs) are virtual networks bringing together over 900 highly specialized healthcare units from 300+ hospitals across EU countries. They play a crucial role in facilitating discussions on rare conditions and consolidating knowledge and resources across Member States. 🧠💼 Their establishment and evaluation are guided by EU legislation, ensuring a standard of excellence in care. Let's advocate for even greater investment in ERNs by Member States! 💪 Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by rare diseases. 💙 #RareDisease #ERNs #HealthcareExcellence

For World PH Day 2024, people with PH from around the world share the importance of a unified effort to transform the PH landscape and address challenges. Erin Baker, from Australia, was diagnosed with idiopathic PAH. Baker believes access to care is essential for people with PH. “Pulmonary hypertension is so intricate and requires specialized treatments that many people in Australia, and worldwide, don't have equal, ready and adequate access to. The fact that everyone with a PH diagnosis is different makes access even harder. The cohort of patients with PH in Australia is small compared to our other first world counterparts, and with a country so vast, there is a risk of people falling through the cracks due to distance, funding and experience, and interest from the appropriate medical professionals. I have been blessed to have access to some of the best PH specialists in the country and have been provided the gold standard therapy for my disease, and I believe I have survived for the 20 years of my diagnosis (and still going strong) because of this. I cannot fathom anyone not having access to the same care and treatment that I have received to enable them to live as well and full a life as possible.” Learn more about the five topics we are highlighting for World PH Day 2024 and how to get involved. https://ow.ly/MaMf50RyuIg

Heard of #WarOnDiabetes, I’m sure? Well, I personally think we should wage war against #CardiovascularDisease too! According to the Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF), 23 people die from cardiovascular disease (heart diseases and stroke) every day. Cardiovascular disease accounted for 31.4% of all deaths in 2022. This means that almost 1 out of 3 deaths in Singapore is due to heart diseases or stroke. According to the Agency for Care Effectiveness (ACE), In Singapore, the 2022 National Population Health Survey reported that over one in three residents (37%) aged 18 to 74 years had hypertension, and that more than half of this group (53%) were previously undiagnosed. Although the prevalence of high blood cholesterol among Singaporeans decreased from 39.1% in 2020 to 31.9% in 2022. The mean LDL-cholesterol level among the newly diagnosed was 4.6 mmol/L. Many of the post #MyocardialInfarction clinic patients that I see are between their 50’s and 60’s, and a substantial proportion only have hypertension or hyperlipidaemia prior to the heart attack. How can we do better? Join us, for this seminar, on how you can play that role in #CVDPrevention and contribute towards #HealthierSG! Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/g8YFC7PH
