[Research New 👩🏼⚕️ ] Excited to share a new article published in @Pediatric Pulmonology. 👀 Study Overview A recent study conducted at Université Grenoble Alpes Hospital and AP-HP Armand Trousseau Hospital in Paris assessed the effectiveness of an automated system that uses mandibular jaw movement (MJM) to detect residual events in children aged 5 to 18 with severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). These children were treated by noninvasive ventilation or continuous positive airway pressure. 🌟 Impact This study showed that MJM automated analysis is not only a reliable method to assess residual events in a population of ventilated children by showing a good agreement between MJM-AHI and PSG-AHI, but also highlighted its potential as a valuable tool for monitoring CPAP effectiveness at home. Such findings expand the practical utility of Sunrise in clinical settings, presenting new perspectives for its application. 👉🏻Full publication available here: https://lnkd.in/eDzuRe_U Kudos to the research team! #PediatricSleepApnea #HealthTech #ChildHealth #SleepResearch

“…reduced parasympathetic reactivation during exercise recovery observed in chronic fatigue (ME/CFS) patients was associated with a lack of exercise induced analgesia/pain relief (EIA). These results suggest that the efficacy of autonomic recovery can possibly mediate the degree of (dys)function of EIA (pain relief) in ME/CFS patients.” Van Oosterwijk 2017 This exercise/pain relief concept hopefully will fundamentally shift chronic pain/fatigue medical care from focusing on managing pain to moving more upstream to repairing fatigue parasympathetic recovery mechanisms with thoughtful HRV tracking that leads to pain and fatigue relief. There is no substitute for months of decent parasympathetic (HRV) sleep repair that begins with several weeks HRV expanding baro/resonant breathing. Pinpointing the culprit(s) of severe meibomian gland atrophy, and high levels of severe tortuosity in the eyelid, in children. Insightful article, by National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) #EyeHealth #ChildEyeCare #ScreenTime
NEWS 📰 A recent study published in Optometry and Vision Science reveals that nearly one-third of children suffer from severe meibomian gland atrophy, and 84% exhibit severe tortuosity in at least one eyelid. Key risk factors include poor diet, high BMI, and reduced outdoor activity, but surprisingly, screen time showed no significant impact. The research underscores the importance of evaluating meibomian gland morphology in pediatric eye exams to better understand and address these abnormalities.#VisionHealth #EyeCare #PediatricResearch #Optometry #HealthyHabits Healio Read more: https://bit.ly/4fgRh7p

Last case in today's shift: Small bowel intussusception in a 5-year-old boy. A 5-year-old boy with intestinal obstruction and a history of passing blood with stool (currant jelly stool) a week before he was referred to our department, along with intermittent crampy abdominal pain. Performing abdominal ultrasound examination, there was a tender lesion measuring around 1.7×1.4 cm in the left lower quadrant and showing target and pseudokidney signs in TS and LS respectively. Color Doppler ultrasound imaging showed intact vascularity within the bowel wall inside the intussusception. Intussusception represents an invagination of a bowel loop into the proximal lumen of another. it's the most common cause of intestinal obstruction in children who are between 3 months and 6 years old. Boys are affected four times as often as girls. #Pediatric_University_Hospital #Damascus_Syria

World Geriatric Day _ October 1 Let's talk about the role of Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Geriatric Physiotherapy or Geriatric Rehabilitation is a brand of physiotherapy that addresses the various physical needs of older adults. With age, as various pain-related problems and underlying conditions start to surface, geriatric physiotherapy is crucial to help people live their golden years pain-free and healthy. It enables the elderly to improve their physical strength and balance, and further help maintain it. Geriatric physiotherapy also supports the community by building confidence and keeping them active. As one ages, the body undergoes various degenerative issues, which leads to loss of strength in the muscle tone. This restricts flexibility and mobility and causes older adults to experience emotional and social functioning changes, affecting their quality of life and well-being. Geriatric physiotherapy is a holistic brand of physiotherapy that provides assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for elderly people for various age-related challenges in musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, neurological, and respiratory areas of health.
