Check out this blog by Nik Sultana, Illinois Institute of Technology, to learn about a new project underway, CREASE (Causal REasoning and Attestation for Scientific Experimentation). CREASE’s goals are to improve the debuggability, diagnosticability and reproducibility of programmable network experiments on research testbeds. The project is a collaboration between Illinois Tech, SRI, and Georgetown University, and it is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). A few days ago, I ran into a new preprint that mentions the GeoDict software. Check out their work https://lnkd.in/e8qRuaw5 to find out more. The authors are from Kaist https://lnkd.in/eGF3wYVp and from Oxford University, https://lnkd.in/e-DedAPe. They find fiber lengths, fiber orientations and void distributions and predict the modulus of the composite system with GeoDict.

Jonas Karge from our group was awarded the Martin Purvis Student Best Paper Award for his contribution „Taming Dilation in Imprecise Pooling“ at this year’s edition of the International Conference on Principles and Practice of Multi-Agent Systems (PRIMA24) in Kyoto, Japan. In this paper, Jonas developed the first formal treatment of dilation for the case where the imprecise or interval-valued probabilistic beliefs of multiple agents are aggregated. Dilation is one of the most important concerns associated with imprecise probabilities in general, and describes the phenomenon that, in some cases, the acquisition of new information inevitably leads to an increase in uncertainty. Furthermore, the paper describes the precise conditions under which and to what extent dilation is expected to occur, using a recently proposed aggregation framework for imprecise probabilities, referred to as Voting for Bins. PRIMA is a well-established conference in the multi-agent research community and celebrated its 25th edition in 2024. It invites both theoretical and applied contributions in the field of multi-agent systems, the study of the interaction of autonomous agents - entities capable of independent decision making - in a shared environment. In this year's edition of PRIMA, papers on coordination and cooperation, logical aspects of multi-agent systems, and computational social choice were particularly represented. The final call for papers of the SPIE Real-time Processing of Image, Depth and Video Information 2025 conference (Prague 7-10 April 2025) is out. All the accepted and presented papers will be indexed in the main scientific databases. All people interested in the development of systems to acquire, store, process and transmitt images and video data, with both SW and HW approaches, are invited to submit their abstract by the 6th of November.
