Our Saturday Plenary Session at #SGIM24 will focus on Trauma-Informed Clinical Approaches to the Care of Firearm Injury Victims and Families. The focus of this conversation is to develop a concrete understanding of ways clinicians and investigators can work to improve trauma-informed care for those most affected – directly and indirectly – by firearm violence. https://buff.ly/3U8LqaL

Are you feeling constantly on the edge of gagging? Or frequently or continuously nauseated? Consider the diagnosis of R-CPD, or the inability to burp. Other symptoms include gurgling noises, bloating, and flatulence to name a few:

#dentistry hits the #headlines again! This time due to the state of #military dental access. Once again UK #Government and #healthpolicy officials have decided to neglect the needs of people. Whether they like it or not #oralhealth is a real need and needs addressing urgently. In the general population it’s a #publichealth issue but in the military population it’s also an #occupationalhealth issue given that service personnel will be incapacitated whilst they’re being ferried around for dental care. There’s also a massive cost of transporting personnel from field sites back to treatment locations. However problems like these don’t appear overnight and are often years in the making. There are normally underlying policy decisions to reorganise, use a less skilled #dental workforce, make funding cuts and reduce types of provision that manifest in these outcomes. Decisions that were probably made 5 - 10yrs ago will now be causing suffering amongst personnel. This is no different to the #NHS where failed decisions from 10+ years ago and thereafter are now plaguing a population. What’s interesting here is that many of those involved in #military dentistry then went onto very senior roles in the #NHS or in some of biggest providers that were serving the NHS. What we see is failure in military dental services, failure in NHS dental commissioning and failure in delivery of NHS dentistry. It raises the question over whether the right decision makers and policy leads were appointed in the first place? At a time where there is so much instability in the world and active personnel are more likely to be needed, it’s difficult to understand how #ministers and Government officials can justify this lack of care. We don’t just need a change of ministers we also need a change of responsible officers in the #military and the NHS!
A preventable disease could keep more than 11,000 soldiers away from protecting this country. Whether it’s in the armed forces or on the high street, this Government’s chronic neglect for dentistry comes at an unacceptable cost. Sign here: https://lnkd.in/ea7nuqqQ

Learning and knowing how to perform CPR is a vital lifesaving skill that everyone should have!
Did you know? A shocking 70% of people feel powerless to act in a cardiac emergency. Think of all the fun moments we're missing out on! That's why we're training 22 million people in CPR each year, building a Nation of Lifesavers where our neighbors are empowered to jump into action when every second counts. Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time - we should all be prepared to help save lives with CPR and make more memories together. #HelpSaveLives #AHA #CPR http://spr.ly/6045bWIQJ

We are always looking for research and data that can help us better understand how to prevent gun violence. This new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report analyzed data from emergency medical services to find trends in firearm injuries. There are particularly important findings on the correlation between firearm injuries and income inequality. It’s more evidence of the power of taking a community health approach to gun violence prevention, addressing economic conditions that contribute to the risk of violence. https://lnkd.in/gUaznaBY Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention

Not actively listening to your team creates a culture where innovation dies, and morale hits rock bottom.

Cardiac arrest can strike without warning, leaving little time to act. Unlike a heart attack, which is often preceded by symptoms, cardiac arrest is sudden and can be fatal if not treated immediately. Did you know that in England alone, thousands of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur each year? The key to survival often lies in the swift use of a defibrillator. Defibrillators are vital tools that can mean the difference between life and death. Understanding the basic mechanics of defibrillation and recognising the importance of early intervention can empower communities to respond effectively and save lives. ❓ Did you know that survival rates drop by 7-10% for every minute without defibrillation? Immediate action is crucial! Defib World is committed to making defibrillators accessible and ensuring communities are prepared. We provide high-quality training and resources to equip individuals with the skills needed to respond effectively. By fostering a culture of preparedness and support, we can create safer environments for everyone. Are you ready to be a lifesaver? #Defibrillators #CardiacArrest #CommunitySafety #EmergencyResponse #CPRTraining #DefibWorld #SaveLives #PublicHealth #AED #GoldenMinutes
