HUGE NEWS: employer registration for the National Plaintiffs' Law Association's second ever job fair is live! https://lnkd.in/gHgPytQP The National Plaintiffs' Law Association is a community of students, alumni, and plaintiffs' attorneys passionate about increasing law student access to and awareness of opportunities in plaintiffs-side representation. Our annual job fair is a cornerstone of that mission. Created as an alternative to on-campus recruiting programs that funnel rising 2L towards large defense firms, we had more than 400 student sign-ups last year—our first ever event! This year, we want to do even more. The virtual job fair—where employers can use our digital platform to schedule and host their interviews—will run from August 5-8th, but we want this program to be valuable outside of that one week. With big law summer recruiting happening earlier and earlier, we're planning on launching our digital platform on June 17, allowing students to know their options and see a comprehensive list of plaintiffs' side employers early in their job search. Don't wait: sign up today! https://lnkd.in/gHgPytQP

In recognition of National 2nd Chance Month, Westwood Church will be hosting a 2nd Chance Job Fair and Employment Readiness Event. We are looking for more businesses to join us. There are many reasons why companies should hire those who are formally incarcerated. These include: Employee retention: Having a criminal background makes an employee less likely to leave a job voluntarily, likely to have a higher tenure, and no more likely to be terminated. Recidivism reduction: People with criminal backgrounds with employment only have a 16% recidivism rate after three years, compared to 52% of those unemployed. Stimulates the economy: Employing just 100 people with criminal backgrounds would increase their income tax contributions by $1.9 million and boost sales tax revenues by $770,000. It would also save the government millions in criminal justice fees. Encourages self-improvement: Employing people with criminal backgrounds gives them a drive and purpose, which creates a positive change not only in their lives but also in the broader society. If you are interested in having a table at this 2nd Chance Job Fair, or have any questions, please send me an email at matt.moeller@westwoodcc.org

1️⃣ 7️⃣ 5️⃣ 2️⃣ - What does this mean to you? We have a new goal to achieve before the end of 2024... 👉 📷 A PA CareerLink® Berks County - Business Services Team picture!!! 📷👈 We end up so immersed in our events, making sure vendors, employers, job seekers, and others have THE BEST experience possible, that getting together for a team picture has proven impossible. But we will get it done! 🔷🔷 🔷 🔷 🔷 🔷 🔷 The PA CareerLink® Berks County office wanted to send out a massive THANK YOU, yes you! And you! Oh yesssss... you too! And you, and you... to all of you who attended our Spring 2024 Job Fair this past Monday. This event wouldn't have been what it was without you. And I will now let you read a few words from our Administrator "We had an astounding turnout from vendors (employers) and job-seeker communities. The 109 vendors in attendance were the most we have ever had at an event, and the 1,752 job seekers in attendance were the most we have had since the Spring of 2012 (2,001). For those scoring at home, the unemployment rate for the Greater Reading area at that time was around 7.6% compared to the present rate of 3.5%" I believe our Admin just dropped the mic!! 🔷🔷 🔷 🔷 🔷 🔷 🔷 With that being said, please check out some pictures of the event, because Amanda & I won't be alone in the next picture 😉 https://lnkd.in/ecSzMcrx #PACareerLinkBerksCounty #BusinessServicesTeam #TeamWork #ATeam #JobFair

Yesterday I attended a construction jobs fair at Camberley Job Centre. It was pretty quiet, and apart from meeting my old colleague Jack Hodgkins (thanks for taking the photo!), not a lot happened. I came away with one CV. Today one of my jobs is entering data into Ringway's new social value calculator. Attending a jobs fair doesn't score highly on the calculator, as the proxy monetary values are based on the impact your activity has on someone's life. Chatting at a job fair = low impact. Fair enough. But you only need to meet one person at a job fair to change their life = high impact. And you need to have strong relationships with JCP work coaches to get introduced to their best candidates. And JCP work coaches need local companies like Ringway to support these events regularly, otherwise they can't run them. This sort of activity - like school careers fair, again, not a high social value calculator score, but bread and butter for schools, and potentially life changing for young people - deliver a different kind of value into our work in local communities. It's like the glue that sticks the value bricks together. Signposts that take us down the right roads. So while I love being able to demonstrate the monetary value of the work I'm delivering for Surrey County Council and Surrey Highways, it's only one measure. And me sitting at a quiet desk in Camberley on a Monday morning is one other. #socialvaluematters #partnershipsthatwork #highwaysheroes

The jobless rate in the CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion region was 4.5% in June, up 0.7 percentage point over the month [...]. Rusty Skinner, CareerSource CLM’s chief executive officer, noted that the bump in the jobless rate and number counted as unemployed is in line with what the region typically experiences moving into the summer months with seasonal shifts in education support and agriculture employment, as well as an influx of post-secondary students returning to the area looking for summer jobs before going back to school. “What we’re experiencing at this time of year is a typical summer slump; it is not unique to our region nor to any other area in Florida for that matter,” he said. “That doesn’t mean we take our foot off the gas; we know businesses are eager to hire which is why we strive to connect them with those looking for work.” Skinner pointed to two such opportunities: the Summer Job Fair that takes place Tuesday, July 23 from 5-7 p.m. at Howard Academy Community Center in Ocala, and the Citrus County Regional Job Fair set to take place at the College of Central Florida’s Citrus County Campus on Aug. 27. Both are free and open anyone in Citrus, Levy or Marion counties. Read the full news release: https://lnkd.in/dTbbupRn #JoblessRate #OcalaEmployment #CareerSource

A few of my recent conversations with young professionals have had a theme: how do you get the job you really want? My answer is pretty simple: keep asking for it. Moxy gets you farther than you may think, and it has for me. When I wanted to be an intern in the United States Senate, I found out the name of Senator Hillary Clinton's intern coordinator and sat in the lobby until he had time to speak with me. While he couldn't hire me, he did walk me down the hall to Senator Jon Corzine's Office and hand them my resume. They hired me on the spot. When I wanted to be a Deputy District Attorney, I applied for court certified law clerk positions. I didn't get an interview with Washington County, so I approached them at a job fair and asked why. They said they didn't think I'd be available as much as they needed me to be since I went to school a couple hours away. I assured them that wouldn't be an issue, so they interviewed and hired me. Keep telling people what you want and asking how to get there. #determination #jobadvice
