🌟 Exciting Update! 🌟 Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve gradually been sharing the outcomes from our peer visioning event workshops in April. We asked crucial questions across six workshops to create a call to action for the next five years. In one session, Extending Peer Support Roles into New Areas, facilitated by Liz Walker, Jane Rennison, and Michael Ryan, we explored expanding peer support's reach. We asked: Where else should we be working? How can we get there? How can we extend Peer roles? There is clearly wide-ranging enthusiasm for developing the peer support workforce across all areas of health and social care. Many event participants were working independently in different areas. The event provided opportunities for sharing resources and networking. The following areas where peer support is needed were discussed: · Family and Carers · People on waiting lists (all conditions) · Integrated Care Peer support (co-morbidity) · Foster care · Hospice services · Perinatal and on Labour wards · ADHD all neurodivergent conditions · Deaf community · Peer support in Recovery Colleges · Forensic services · Prison criminal justice services · Migrants refugees · Parenting in general · Education & Schools · CAMHS · Influencing organisations · Emergency departments · Crisis services · Intensive care (families) · Comorbidities · Social services · Bereavement · Dual diagnosis · Older people · Retirement · Post diagnosis (EG stomas) ImROC offers a communication point to link people working in similar areas and share progress that we are aware of. Please do contact Liz@imroc.org if you would like to discuss your ideas or find others who are developing similar work as we are keen to map and connect services. Next steps? Embedding co-production and recovery principles across services to transform lives and challenge traditional healthcare models. Thanks to Eddy for capturing our vibrant discussions in this amazing graphic #PeerSupport #Innovation #MentalHealth #CoProduction #FutureOfCare #livedexperience

Rape Crisis Centers (RCCs) serve as a vital resource in communities. They provide an array of FREE services to survivors--including therapy--that is otherwise not affordable or readily available. There is very limited research on the experiences of survivors who receive these types of "outside of the lab," real-world therapies--the majority of whom come from marginalized populations. Pre-COVID, my colleagues and I conducted an evaluation of an RCC's victim assistance services (for those going thru the criminal justice system). It's rare for researchers to conduct interviews with client-survivors to get their feedback on services due to access and confidentiality issues, but we actually had a sizable number of clients who wanted to participate in the research. During the interviews, we asked about victim assistance services, but the clients also frequently discussed their experience with RCC-provided therapy--an indicator of its importance to the clients. We knew this also had to be included in the evaluation as well. Thanks to Gunnur Karakurt for taking the lead in helping ensure these findings made it into the scholarly literature. Thanks to Maggie McGuire, MPH, CPH, and Kirsti Mouncey for your collaboration and leadership on this as well. Most importantly, thanks to the client-survivors for sharing your experiences with us and others.
Our paper "Sexual Assault Survivors’ Individual and Group Therapy Experiences at Rape Crisis Center" is published at Women in Therapy. https://lnkd.in/e7M2MRZU Survivors of sexual violence face lasting mental & physical health challenges. Rape Crisis Centers offer crucial support like crisis hotlines, medical advocacy, and therapy. Our study explores survivors' experiences in therapy, revealing themes of emotional processing, group dynamics, obstacles, and suggestions for improvement. This research aims to enhance services and policies for survivors. #sexualassault #survivors #SupportSurvivors #MentalHealth #RapeCrisisCenters #Therapy Kirsti Mouncey, Rachel Lovell, PhD , Elif Ezgi Çetinsaya , Margaret McGuire

Founder/CEO @ Mindful Companies | Dad | Rotarian | Workforce Development Pro | 40 under 40 | Power Broker |
Exciting news from Mindful Staffing Solutions! We're thrilled to announce our groundbreaking partnership with the Milwaukee District Attorney's Office and Justice Point. Our collaboration is designed to pave a transformative path for individuals with open cases but not yet convicted, offering them a beacon of hope and a tangible opportunity for change. At Mindful Staffing, we believe in the power of education and employment as key drivers for social reintegration. Through this partnership, we're offering zero-tuition education and employment opportunities, coupled with essential supportive services like housing and transportation. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive support system for those under the supervision of Justice Point, empowering them to redefine their futures. The essence of this initiative is rooted in a profound belief: corrective behavior and community contribution hold far more value than incarceration. By participating in our programs, individuals have a chance to demonstrate their commitment to positive change, which will be acknowledged as evidence of corrective behavior in court. This approach not only supports the individuals' personal growth but also underscores a collective commitment to nurturing productive, contributing members of society. Together, we're not just offering a second chance; we're advocating for a shift in perspective, highlighting the importance of rehabilitation over punishment. It's about building bridges, not barriers, and ensuring that justice and opportunity go hand in hand. We will continue to use implement our model in all areas of society where we find lack of opportunity, chance for hope, or social & economic barriers. Join us as we embark on this journey to make a meaningful impact, one life at a time. It's a testament to what we can achieve when we unite for a common goal: transforming lives and fostering a more inclusive, supportive community. #Partnership #SocialImpact #EducationForAll #JusticeReform #MindfulStaffingSolutions #Milwaukee

If our legislators only realized how much it costs society to *not* provide the programs and services written about here. The cost of healthcare, incarceration, children in care, policing, and trying to make some dent in the chaos of homelessness is far higher than what it costs to support these women to better lives. After 15 years of doing this work, we at LEAP know we are on the right track. Now we all just need to convince our legislators that funding comprehensive, incarceration-to-community programming is just as important as funding jails and prisons. https://lnkd.in/eGWb5Nmq

This research by Noel Vest is important for two reasons: #1, as Second Chance Pell creates a prison to college pipeline, colleges and universities must be equipped to integrate these students into campus life. #2, research about this space should be done by people who know the systems. Promoting scholarly research by people impacted by the legal system.

Though much of what we found was obvious for students with histories of incarceration, I hope this addition to the literature will spur more researchers (with and without histories of incarceration) to examine this important student group in future research. Yesterday I had the opportunity to sit down with some community partners to discuss how transit could play a more vital role in the community other than providing transit services. The conversation about the increase in the unhoused community came up. This was a perfect opportunity for me to share my thoughts. In my years of transit service, this topic has always been a conversation piece, but little has been done. For those transit organizations looking to get involved, it’s all about partnership and opportunity. I believe that opportunity lies in job placement. After all, who knows our transit services better than some of the unhoused individuals? 1. Could this be an opportunity to partner with mental institutions? 2. Could this be an opportunity to partner with drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers? 3. Could this be an opportunity to partner with temporary housing organizations? I think the answer lies in HOPE. If we as a transit industry can help give those less fortunate hope to get back on their feet, then one by one, I believe that we can resolve a country wide concern.
