It’s awesome to see curling growing here in BC! With new clubs like Wells Gray Curling Club rejoining the Curl BC family, it feels like there’s a real buzz around the sport right now. And it’s not just local; big investments, like The Curling Group snagging the Grand Slam of Curling and its global rights, show just how much curling is on the rise. Curling is one of those sports that truly brings people together—whether you’re 9 or 90, it’s accessible, social, and just plain fun. With 89 Curl BC facilities around BC, there’s a chance to connect communities across the province. So, if you’re a business looking to make a difference, why not get involved? Partnering with Curling isn’t just supporting a sport; it’s investing in a movement that’s building healthier, more vibrant communities. Looking forward to speaking to anyone interested in making a lasting impact in B.C. cc: Scott Braley, Bryan Chan, Sherri Taylor, Melissa Soligo, Paul Cseke, Alexis Bertin, Juan Andrés Benites Gutiérrez, Hayato Matsuba, Cheryl Bernard, OLY, Elaine Dagg-Jackson, Colin Hodgson, Carolyn McRorie,

Historic mills are an integral part of the New England landscape - having played a major role in the Industrial Revolution. Today, many like this one, fill modern housing needs while preserving a piece of our past. Saving the Century and Consumers Buildings from demolition was the right decision, because it unlocks the environmental benefits of reusing existing buildings while keeping Chicago—the city where the skyscraper was invented—economically and architecturally vibrant. I commend GSA leadership for conducting the Section 106 process in a manner that valued community input and for avoiding the potentially catastrophic precedent of needless destruction of buildings that were both savable and worth saving. THAT SAID, any rehab will go through Section 106. Anyone who wants to facilitate making these buildings “climate-smart” or converting them to housing should weigh in on THIS proposal, which aims to do just that, by October 9: https://lnkd.in/dvascnnY
The ACHP and Illinois SHPO this week signed a programmatic agreement with the GSA that will save two historic Chicago downtown Loop skyscrapers from demolition and set them up for leasing to put them back into productive use. The buildings dating to the mid-1910s have been vacant for years and fallen into disrepair. The agreement stipulates that the lessee will restore the buildings, including many of the historic features. ACHP Chair Sara C. Bronin’s latest Preservation Shorts video focuses on preservation of the Century and Consumers Buildings. https://lnkd.in/ekNhDH9B Read more about the agreement and history of the buildings here: https://lnkd.in/eEQjG2hs #achp #historicpreservation Landmarks Illinois National Trust for Historic Preservation Preservation Chicago

That’s all well and good and I agree something needs to be done with The Grand but there are fundamental issues that need fixing first. Scarborough has a massive pothole issue and the council seems to think that filling the holes with gravel will fix the problem. There’s a massive issue with drainage in Falsgrave park causing it to be either a bog or an ice rink. The council won’t grit it in the winter for fear of liability if someone has an accident, in the meantime, residents, especially the older generation fear taking a walk in the winter because they don’t want to fall. The A64 has had “talks” about it being a dual carriage way for years, when will this become a reality? There’s plots of land/warehouse at the back of Morrison’s that would be ideal for rock climbing/ice rink/trampoline centre to encourage residents and visitors all year round. What will be done about the fact there are Poundlands and charity shops but nowhere to encourage locals to shop local building a sustainable local economy? Surely these are issues that should be tackled before injecting millions of, presumably tax payers’ money into a project that will take years to come to fruition or is this a project for you purely to attract voters?
𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫. The choice is between the bold action we need, or more of the same. Others will stand by as our heritage disintegrates. I will rescue it. They’ll accept decline. I’ll reverse it. I have a grand plan for Scarborough. This isn’t a hotel renovation, it’s a revolution. And this isn’t just about one town. It’s an example of the level of my ambition for North Yorkshire. Eyesores transformed at long last. Civic pride restored. The high street brought back to life. 🗳️ Thursday’s vote will determine the future of Scarborough, and our whole county. current value — equitable — comparable properties — rounded — garage differential Nino Dodaro appealed the assessment of his property at 93 Bird's Lane in the Township of King, arguing that the assessed values for 2021-2024 were too high. The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation MPAC proposed slightly lower values than initially assessed. The Assessment Review Board ARB found the current value to be $992,000 for 2024 and $667,000 for 2021-2023. However, the ARB determined that an equitable reduction was necessary, setting the values at $972,000 for 2024 and $653,000 for 2021-2023. The Township of King did not participate in the proceedings.
