Wazza is back at home base after its inaugural mission. Initially sent out as a rookie with zero hours of experience, it was only meant to be on the job for 14 days. However, the project team found Wazza and the mat troops to be an invaluable addition, extending their stay to 201 days. From snippets of classified information, we know the mats hopped from one scope to another across the project. They began by assisting with geotechnical drilling in a creek bed, surrounded by giant water spiders and resting on elephant ear plant stems. What happened next is a bit of a mystery, but we suspect they were used as a piling platform for drill rigs and access tracks down sensitive waterways, where the use of gravel would have risked having too great of an environmental impact. Judging by the smell they brought back, the mats seem to have settled in some rich and fertile soil. After a cleansing 30-minute bath and a thorough 10-minute inspection, Wazza is back in top condition and ready for its next adventure. Check this out!! Time lapse of a rail shut we had a few weeks back. AVPE has been heavily involved in the civil construction of a rail siding for CBH at their Konnongorring site. The pressures on when a rail shut is in place with all the balls rolling to meet deadlines and ensure there's no costly overruns. Here's a quick time lapse showcasing some of the works involved, mainly focusing on our civil side. Unfortunately I only had 1 camera but the same scope of works is happening almost simultaneously at the Northern end of the siding, about 1.2km away. The big yellow dinosaur you see is called a Kirow. This is a rail track layer machine used to pick-up and move into place pre built rail turnouts to speed up the process. I believe this is one of the first projects DT Infrastructure have used this machine on. The collapse of rock blocks of various sizes has disrupted the smooth passage of vehicles on the I/18 Strečno road, which is one of the most heavily trafficked routes, with approximately 40,000 vehicles passing daily. Based on the engineering geological survey performed by Geotechnik SK, the need to ensure traffic safety by means of rockfall protection was determined. As part of the remedial measures, a rock slope stabilization plan was developed, which includes: • Removal of overgrown vegetation and loose rock blocks, • Stabilization of the slope with highstrength rockfall nets 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐫 combined with anchoring elements, • Installation of 𝐝𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬 (2000 kJ, 1500 kJ, and 70 kJ). To further enhance safety, given the high traffic, the 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐂 𝐆𝐞𝐨, an essential 𝐈𝐨𝐓 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦, developed to monitor rockfall protection, was installed on all new and existing dynamic barriers. 🔧 Investor: Slovenská správa ciest 🏗️ Contractor: @SWIETELSKY stavební s.r.o.
