A year after the devastating Lahaina fires, the community continues to rebuild and reflect on the impact of the disaster. The fires, which ravaged Maui in 2023, destroyed homes, businesses, and key cultural sites, leaving many residents displaced and grappling with profound loss. It was an honor to help policy holders get into temporary housing during that difficult time and be part of a solution. Despite these challenges, the community has demonstrated remarkable resilience and solidarity. Reconstruction efforts have been slow but steady. Residents who lost generational family homes, have mostly completed debris removal and are now waiting for clearance to rebuild. Teachers, for instance, have been at the forefront of this effort, providing emotional and logistical support to each other and to displaced students.
