Every time I read a health headline, I always have the same two thoughts. 1. What methods were used to support the results? 2. Does the headline match the researcher’s conclusions? These two questions force me to try to understand— how was this done and why does it matter? Asking these questions and maintaining this lens comes in handy while digging into the variations in measurement methodologies among different RMN partners. (More standardization in 2024?) Today, I no longer review and apply findings from health research in my day-to-day. Yet, I still find myself asking the above questions.

Understanding the "evidence ecosystem" you're working in is essential for anyone working to make or influence policy. It helps decision-makers know where to go to get the best evidence to tackle the challenges they face, and those producing evidence know how to see impact from what they learn. I've just come across this interactive map of the evidence ecosystem for UK health policy (produced by the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences - University of Oxford) which is a really interesting way of visualising the range of stakeholders a researcher might need to think about to generate impact on policymaking - shared below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eKACb55K

So I resigned from research work which I was so passionate of after 9 long years but I know in my heart that my work is not yet done in health systems Strengthening through research. I have contributed to different research projects through its baseline as the advisor and actual Implementer for both quantitative and qualitative research. Though I am back at home resting, I am so privileged to be still contributing to the publications of those papers that will be used to inform policies and improve the health services. I am so humbled because I know this will make a big difference in Strengthening our health systems through proper translation of the research findings. #workfromhome #research #health #researchpublications

Congrats to the Global and Women’s Health, School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University team (led by Jane Fisher) who conducted a secondary data analysis of the 2022 National Women's Health Survey (which is run annually by Jean Hailes for Women's Health) to provide evidence of the effects of social determinants on the capacity of women from across Australia to access and understand health information. This study is the first to provide evidence that the social determinants of health such, as limited English language proficiency, limited financial resources, not having a tertiary education, or identifying as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, reduce women’s capacity to access and understand health information.
