The Apothecary Cut Flower All parts of the Red Ginger (Alpinia purpurata)—the bark, rhizome, fruit, leaves and seeds—are used medicinally. Preparations of the fruit are used to treat sores, the rhizomes for headaches, the inflorescence used for coughs, and a decoction of the leaves is used for digestive issues. Yet, there are many other traditional uses. From this plant are also made perfumes, dyes, fiber papers and other products. Originally Malaysian natives, these plants are now grown throughout the world in tropical climates for the beauty of their flowers and as cut flowers. Red Ginger is also naturalized in many areas and considered an invasive weed in certain parts of the world. The Red Ginger produces a plume of bracts that look like the flower, year-round, but really the true flower is a small white flower on top. Similar to ginger, it has a growth habit with spreading rhizomes sending up stalks bearing lush green leaves and topped by a flower. Through scientific investigation, Red Ginger has been confirmed to have vasodilator effects, correlating with the content of phenolic compounds in extracts. Extracts of the rhizome showed wide-spectrum antimicrobial activity, and the leaves were found to have antimycobacterial, as well as anti-inflammatory activity, potentially also useful for tuberculosis. Other reported activities through scientific investigation include antioxidant, antimicrobial, antifungal, anticancer, apoptotic, larvicidal, and hypotensive partially mediated through nitric oxide, as well as a novel CXC Chemokine Receptor-4 Inhibitor. #ethnobotany #medicinalplants #biodiversity #flower #alpinia #ginger #Malasia *This content is for informational and educational purposes only. Fish Mint This native to Southeast Asia is used as a leaf vegetable and also grown for its colorful foliage as an ornamental. Fish Mint (aka. The Chameleon Plant, Rainbow Plant; Houttuynia cordata) spreads like an ivy, mounding to about 3 feet tall and wide and displays heart shaped alternate leaves that are green or with various variegations depending on the variety—the most common being the ‘Chameleon’ variety. Strangely, this plant has what is normally described as a ‘fish-like’ smell and flavor, yet I would describe it as metallic. It is used as a fresh garnish, like a spice, and enjoyed in some Asian cuisines. Fish Mint has also been long used in traditional Chinese medicine, as well as widely known for its medicinal properties though diverse Indian and Asian cultures. Mostly it has been used for its anti-inflammatory activity, respiratory health, stomach ulcers and muscular strains, among other traditional uses. Through scientific investigation Fish Mint has been found to exhibit anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immunomodulatory activities and anti- SARS-associated coronavirus activity. Fish Mint has also been found to inhibit herpes simplex virus through NF-kB activation. In a recent randomized, double-blind clinical study, Fish Mint administered with three other herbs was found to significantly decrease both inflammatory and non-inflammatory skin lesions and be beneficial for patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris. #biodiversity #Botanicals #ethnobotany #TCM #SoutheastAsia **This content is for informational and educational purposes only. Boosting your MOJO this Valentines ❤️ Love is in the air, and whether you're spending tonight with your partner or courting a potential partner, I'm going to share three things that have been shown to boost mojo. 1️⃣ Zinc and Selenium: 🐚 Zinc and Selenium are found in protein rich foods like Lamb, Beef, Chicken, Salmon and Shellfish in particular Oysters. Zinc and Selenium exert local antioxidant effects in the reproductive tract, helping boost testosterone production and seminal volume. Studies show these nutrients can boost mating frequency in monkeys. 2️⃣ Acai Berries 🍇 Acai îs a rich source of lycopene, which is an antioxidant used in sperm production. Low levels are also associated with erectile dysfunction. I achieve very good results with clients using Acai Berry Powder but by all means try using frozen. Two heaped teaspoons in a glass of water several hours beforehand works well. 3️⃣ Ecklonia Cava 🌊 Is a brown Algae that is rich in phlorotannins, which have especially potent antioxidant effects, helping to boost nitric oxide levels and has also been shown to help erectile dysfunction 🍆. I recommend using SEANOL-F which is an extract of brown algae for maximum effect. About 400mg 30 minutes before a meal can be very potent. You can thank me later 😉 Happy Valentines ❤️ #valentinesday #valentinesday2024 #loveisintheair #loveandkindness
