Difficult to control..........they hide under their webs...........pesticides are difficult to reach to mites bcz of webs. Use of surfectants, soaps, wetting agents along with pesticides is recommended to dissolve web o that pesticide can reach to mites.
Red Spider Mites multiply rapidly in warm, dry conditions, making them especially problematic for crops grown under cover, like strawberries. 🍓 In environments where the temperature exceeds 30°C, a new generation of mites can be produced in just 3 days. The Northern Hemisphere’s 2024 table grape season is in full swing! The Coachella Valley (California) began their harvest three weeks ago, and the San Joaquin Valley (California) is set to start in two weeks. These regions provide optimal growing conditions for grapes, with an estimated production of 80-100 million cartons (8.6kg each). Meanwhile, in the Southern Hemisphere, we are diligently preparing for our 2024/2025 table grape season, which will commence in the first week of November and run until the end of March. We have started pruning our grapevines on the earliest farms located in the north, a crucial step to ensure optimal timing for our markets, healthy growth, and abundant fruit. In all the cider region people harvest fruits off the ground. In all the regions? Not in the U.S. In two weeks, I'll be in the U.S. for the first time, visiting partners, meeting farmers and promoting our Organic Tools fruit and nut harvester FruitCat for this new market. In the run-up to entering the market, I realized once again that the USA is different. Due to concerns about food safety and legal regulations, the prevailing mindset is that ground fruit is unusable. Orchards leave upwards of 40% of their crop unharvested due to fruit dropping off the trees onto the orchard floor. This unharvested crop is a huge waste for the orchard and unrealized economic potential. Yet, the orchard ground is the place where the ripest apples are found. These fully ripened apples possess high sugar, tannin, and acid profiles—characteristics highly sought after in the cider-making process. In contrast, apples harvested for fresh eating (dessert apples) are picked before reaching their peak ripeness, which compromises the sugar and flavor profile essential for crafting high-quality hard cider. If you've ever tasted a flat, one-sided sweet, boring cider, chances are it was made from apples that were harvested (unripe) from the tree. In Europe we sold almost 2,000 harvesters and we never needed to explain, that farmers can harvest their cider apples and perry pears off the ground, as this is done since generations. Now in the U.S. we'll need to explain more. The funny thing is, if the juice is pasteurized and fermented, it is allowed in the United States even with the current law, but still the belief persists that it is illegal to process fruit from the ground.
