Check out this vintage escape from Muirhead Village in 1999 when he absolutely duffs his first chip prompting commentator and all time legend Jack Nicklaus to say: "Now he's going to have a hard time making 5". But Tiger never gives up, owns his mistake and holes a sublimely timed flop shot for a par 4, responding like true champions do. Tiger then does an iconic fist pump, botches his fist bump with caddie Steve Williams and leaves Vijay Singh stonefaced. Tiger would win the tournament by two strokes over Vijay. But in this game, played at the FIDE World Championship in Tripoli (2004) he played a very rare 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲. Rook sacrifices for long term compensation are very rare as a rook is worth a lot of material. Today’s game features Topalov playing this very rare sacrifice. Topalov has 3 pawns for a rook but at a certain point he 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝟮 𝗽𝗮𝘄𝗻𝘀 for a rook yet he’s the one pushing for a win! This game will teach us a lot of 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 like why rooks can be 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴, the 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘭𝘺 and the importance of having the initiative and a 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺.
