A: Respecting the historical significance of the flag and the sacrifices made by our dads and forefathers is paramount. The consideration for a new flag is not meant to diminish their contributions or the importance of the existing flag. While the current flag holds immense historical value and represents the efforts of those who fought for it, the idea of a new flag is driven by the recognition that a nation, like Australia, is continuously growing and diversifying. The proposed flag seeks to embrace this evolution, past and present. The intent is not to erase history but to create a flag that reflects the diversity of Australia while acknowledging the sacrifices and achievements of those who came before. It aims to foster a sense of inclusion, where every citizen, regardless of background, can see themselves represented in the national symbol. The proposal is a step toward ensuring that the flag continues to be a source of pride and unity, honouring the legacy of our dads and forefathers in the spirit of modern Australia. On February 15, 1965, the National Flag of Canada flew over Parliament Hill for the very first time. That same day, CSE (or CBNRC, as we were known at the time) followed suit with their own flag-raising ceremony. Everyone gathered outside to witness this historic event as Edward Drake, CSE’s first Chief, lowered the Red Ensign for the last time. The old flag held a special place in the hearts of many CSE employees, some of whom, like Drake himself, had served under it during the Second World War. And yet, it was a celebratory occasion as the brand-new Canadian Flag was raised and unfurled for the first time at Canada’s national foreign signals intelligence agency. The creation of a Canadian Flag, much like the creation of the CSE as an independent intelligence organization only twenty years prior, represented another major turning point towards Canada emerging as a mature nation on the world stage. In an internal publication at the time, a CSE employee wrote: “The birth of our flag at least represents the initial phase of a solution which is designed to see Canada emerge as a mature nation. Aside from Canada’s contribution to World Wars I & II, the flag alone is of our making, the manifestation of which represents the birth of a new era – for this we should be proud and strive with vigour towards a complete independence and a unified nation.” #FlagDay #Canada #CSE

The move by RSL Queensland to amend the ANZAC Day acknowledgment is a stark illustration of capitulation to 'woke' sensibilities, undermining the solemnity of a day meant to honour our military's valor and sacrifice. Such deviation from tradition is not merely a modification; it's a betrayal of ANZAC Day's sacred essence, pandering to a segment of society that values virtue signalling over genuine commemoration. Attempts to adopt a new acknowledgment are aimed at appeasing contemporary social narratives and diluting the day's purpose. ANZAC Day is about those who donned the uniform, faced the unimaginable, and paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. It's not a platform for social or political agendas. RSL Queensland's leadership, in their pursuit to be 'inclusive', have lost sight of ANZAC Day's core: a day of reflection and gratitude towards our servicemen and women. This misstep not only disrespects the memory of our fallen but also sows division where there should be unity. This 'woke' overhaul is an affront to veterans and serving members who see ANZAC Day as a solemn occasion, not a stage for social commentary. It's high time RSL Queensland realigned with the true spirit of ANZAC Day, honouring our military heritage without succumbing to fleeting social pressures. https://lnkd.in/gUXgVVqM

Peace is neither built on hopes and dreams nor on diplomatic handshakes. It is beyond ceasefires, settlements or even peace treaties. True peace is something softer, more delicate. It's about mutual respect and care. It's about genuine, lasting harmony between peoples. It requires skills and maturity: authentic communication, empathy and compassion. Until we recognize what true peace is, we will continue to fail ourselves and each other. And we will continue to fall into the cycles of violence we have been locked in throughout human history. Rather than more lip service and diplomacy, we need to orient ourselves around healing and growth for ourselves and for our leaders.
