Our team recently spent an afternoon volunteering with Mill City Grows! Together, we assisted with planting and weeding at their Urban Farm, where the organization grows many of the crops for their mobile markets. Planting for pollinators is so important to every aspect of life. Planting native plants for pollinators is even smarter. Look up what garden zone you are, then what native plants grow in that garden zone, buy and plant in your neck of the woods. Voila!

We've been out volunteering as part of the Benefact Group Big Give Back week!😁 Mandy & Sonya have visited the beautiful Heal Somerset, and were treated to a tour of the Heal rewilding site, from CEO Jan Stannard; totally immersed in nature from insects, to birds, to plants and trees and other animals🌱 Our team also took part in worm surveys, which provided a big insight in to the quality of the soil and the habitats of the different kinds of worms. Thank you to Heal Rewilding for welcoming us on site, our team has described their experience as 'truly magical'💜 #BigGiveBack2024

Community Giving Week is all about giving back to Camp and School—but we would be remiss not to extend that spirit of giving back to the place we call home! To celebrate our Adirondack community, we wanted to recognize one of our great nonprofit partners here in the region, AdkAction. Here are some pollinator facts they shared with us recently: 🦋 Three-fourths of the world’s flowering plants and about 35 percent of the world’s food crops depend on animal pollinators to reproduce. That’s one out of every three bites of food you eat! 🐝 Threats including habitat loss and fragmentation, pesticide use, climate change, and disease are causing a decline in global and local pollinator populations. 🐞 Pollinators that can’t find the right quantity or quality of food (nectar and pollen from blooming plants within flight range) don’t survive. Right now, there simply aren’t enough pollinator friendly plantings to support pollinators. Learn more about AdkAction’s work in this recent conversation between our Garden Manager Kim Smart and Hannah Grall, AdkAction Project Coordinator - visit https://lnkd.in/ej96TWVK to watch the full interview. And if you haven’t made your gift yet, donate today at https://lnkd.in/e5-rHD2S!

Have you considered the importance of farm workers' roles as you shop for groceries? How does the fresh food that we purchase at the market get there? Learn more at our presentation this week.
Our program this week sheds light on the California Farmworker Foundation (CFF), a nonprofit organization based in Delano dedicated to empowering farmworkers to have a voice in their communities. The organization's core mission is to enhance the quality of life for California farmworkers through tailored programs and services. Operating at the grassroots level, CFF employs a user-centered approach to customize its offerings to meet the specific needs of farmworkers. With a significant expansion in personnel and coverage across six counties, CFF's Outreach Specialists engage with thousands of farmworkers weekly in California, reaching over 90,000 individuals in 2023. During this presentation, you will learn about the ongoing initiatives undertaken by CFF to address farmworkers' needs and provide essential solutions to enhance their overall well-being. Our speaker, Diana Silva, holds the position of Communication Director at the California Farmworker Foundation (CFF). With her family roots deeply connected to the farm-working community, she draws inspiration from her grandparents, who were farmworkers after immigrating from Mexico. As the first in her family to earn a college degree, Diana graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Communication from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Her dedication to agriculture, community service, and the desire to continue generational progress motivated her to join CFF in 2021. #Rotary #rotaryclub #farmworkers https://lnkd.in/gJHW6-Jt

Are you a grassroots nonprofit leader or founder looking to make a larger impact? Take inspiration from the Mississippi Forestry Association. Their successful advocacy and awareness strategies are anchored in education - teaching landowners, legislators, and the public about forestry's essential role in Mississippi's economy. As leaders in nonprofits, we too carry a similar responsibility to articulate the significance of our missions to our communities. Collaboration is crucial too. By fostering partnerships, we amplify our ability to bring change! Remember, the best stories aren't just told, they are shared. And the best connections are born from a shared passion and understanding. Let's reach out, educate, collaborate and weave our stories into the fabric of our communities! #GiveHopeDaily #NonprofitCollaboration #EducateToElevate #NonprofitMarketingSolutions

Georgia ForestWatch is a dedicated nonprofit committed to preserving and protecting Georgia's national forests. Our mission revolves around three core principles: protecting our forests and streams, advocating for natural processes, and identifying opportunities to improve forest management. These principles are the foundation of our work, and we are reaching out to you today to ask for your help in furthering our cause. Georgia's national forests, crucial for our communities' well-being and our planet's health, are under immediate threat. Our organization is on the front lines, but we need your urgent support to make a substantial impact. Here's how your support can contribute to our mission: Protection of Forests and Streams: Your contribution will enable us to implement targeted initiatives to protect our forests and ensure the purity of our streams. This includes efforts to combat deforestation, preserve biodiversity, and restore damaged ecosystems. Advocacy for Natural Processes: With your support, we can amplify our advocacy efforts to promote the importance of natural processes in maintaining the balance of our ecosystems. This involves educating policymakers, communities, and stakeholders about the significance of embracing nature's inherent wisdom. Improving Forest Management: Your financial support will facilitate research and implementation of sustainable forest management practices. By identifying and promoting responsible approaches, we can contribute to Georgia's national forests' long-term health and resilience. We recognize the challenges you and many others face. Your contribution, regardless of its size, will have a significant impact. By supporting us, you are investing in the future of our environment, the health of our communities, and the preservation of Georgia's natural heritage. Thank you for considering supporting Georgia ForestWatch. Your contribution, no matter how small, will help us create a lasting legacy of conservation and sustainability for future generations, ensuring the health and resilience of Georgia's national forests. The Ocean Writer | I write stories about cool 🐠🦈🐳🦀⛵🔬🌊 | Freelance marine science, conservation & sustainability writer available for commissions
Took a little longer than I wanted to add this all up (because a - maths, b - BUSY and c - managed to muck up my website and lose the impact tracker page... FAIL! Huge thanks to the team at Green Hosting for helping me get it back!) OK, anyway. The Ocean Writer's first year of business is complete (woop) which means it's time to track my first year's impact and see how it compares with previous years (as a sole trader). 💙 13 great clients: some I'd worked with before and some new (all lovely) 🎁 7 days of pro bono support, volunteering & citizen science (down on last year's stonking 12.5 days but still respectable I think!) 💰 1.57% of my income donated to good causes... creeping up from 1.2% the previous year (wahoo) 🌿 That includes enough donations to Project Seagrass to fund 2,251 seagrass seeds (also up from last year) 🌴 1,407 trees planted (up on the previous year's 1,163 but likely to fall next year) ✏️ 23 petitions signed (down on 22-23's 35 petitions boo... hopefully I can increase again this year) For the full spiel, check out the roundup blog 👇 & gimme tips/ideas to keep improving in 2024-25 please! https://lnkd.in/d37iiSQw
