Gary S. Farmer, Chairman, Greater Austin Economic Development Corporation/Opportunity Austin: “Without question, Central Texas is blessed that Samsung Electronics is located and expanding in our region. Since its earliest days in Austin nearly 30 years ago, Samsung has consistently engaged in meaningful community partnerships, provided incredible employment opportunities, embraced educational programs to enhance future employment options for young people, and served the role as a model corporate citizen. Samsung’s decision to expand the semiconductor ecosystem in Texas will surely enhance economic prosperity and national security for generations to come. At Samsung, we formed the GOST team over 4 years ago to cover the ecosystem needs of the Memory Division. In this blog, you can read about our story. More specifically (i) what we had envisioned when we started this team, (ii) how we have adapted our priorities to align our open-ecosystem efforts with business outcomes, and (iii) our vision for the years to come. I hope this serves as a blueprint for other semiconductor companies to invest more in the open-ecosystem across the board. #samsung #openecosystem #GOST

Samsung is set to invest $45 billion in the Austin area, marking one of the largest deals in US history and solidifying Central Texas's role as a semiconductor hub. The investment, spurred by federal funding, will primarily focus on expanding chipmaking facilities in Taylor and Austin, creating thousands of manufacturing and construction jobs. President Biden views this investment as crucial for bolstering national security and strengthening ties with South Korea. The expansion signifies a major shift in semiconductor manufacturing back to the US and aligns with Biden's goal of increasing domestic chip production to enhance economic and geopolitical security. The Future of Entertainment Sustainability & Historically Accurate Experience Parks | Helping Legends CRE8 Eternity | Destination Resort & Entertainment Complex | Host of Haunted Texas Theme Park Podcast WE'RE VIRAL!
🎢 Exciting News from Taylor, Texas 🎢 You see, while it's great that Samsung moved to Taylor, Texas to infuse the local economy, the reality is that many people I know in Taylor never had the opportunity to go to college. A theme park, however, will sustain the economy in many areas and provide jobs for those who didn't get to attend college and for those who are from this little bitty town. This theme park is going to be something that keeps Taylor first, unlike all these other entities moving to town. We do have a rich entertainment community, and I know quite a few folks that put on really good shows.... 🤔 We're flippin the scrirpt on this cotton pickin town. 🤭 Pulling #TheUltimateHiest. #TheWire don't have nothing on #TheLine in Taylor Texas. #TaylorFirst #EconomicGrowth "The Samsung chip factory announcement is set to put Taylor, Texas not just on the state's map but on the global map, transforming it into an international economic hub. If it proceeds and breaks ground, the Samsung Development will attract major development and growth for Taylor, from construction to business across all industries for decades to come. As I dig deeper into this story, it's clear that the impact will be profound." ~ Trusted Source #JobCreation #SupportLocal #CommunityDevelopment #TaylorTexas #HauntedTexasThemePark #Empowerment #EconomicSustainability #InclusiveOpportunities #LocalJobs https://gofund.me/baec64e5 I'm thinking we got sold out ... but Haunted Texas is dedicated to research and making sure we keep Taylor's heart and soul intact. 🤔🤪👻🤠🎢🎡🫶🏿🫶🏾🫶🫶🏻🫵🏻🫵🏼🫵🏾🫵🦆🇨🇱

I feel tremendously proud to mark my 20th year in AMD with an interview with Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 . Few key summaries: 1) The title, <Corporate culture is the secret sauce>, sums up AMD's open, honest and collaborative culture. It is under this culture that, through the ups and downs over the years, AMDers overcome challenges together and went on to achieve success. 2) AMD values and respects employees. Every employee has a voice (through annual AMD survey). 3) AMD gives back to communities in Singapore, through partnerships with schools and non-profits. 4) My own life journey with a child who requires long term care. It hasn't been easy (at times challenging) to juggle work and family life, but thankfully I have a supportive manager in Paul Yioutas . Thank you, Sebastian Lee Yong Cheng (AMD Public Relations) and Dennis Ng 黄少伟 (Zaobao Senior journalist) for the opportunity to share this story. Developing leaders in Innovation and Human-Centered Organizations. Previous Learning Leader, W. L. Gore & Associates.
Thoughtful observations on misguided attempts to increase productivity by working people even harder from Christopher Lind. Why do we persist in needing to learn this?! It is so ironic that manufacturing companies would not run their machines so hard that there was no time for maintenance or restoration, but they think running their people this hard will result in greater productivity. Especially when new solutions will most likely come from perspective shifts and applying new cognitive frames, which only occur when people get some distance from the problem, some rest, or engagement in non-work activities (e.g. creative pursuits, physical or social activities, travel, … ). Which is simply not possible or likely with just one day a week for personal time.

Samsung recently announced six-day weeks for senior leaders to overcome the company's challenges, which isn't surprising. However, I highly doubt it will net the results they're seeking. While it seems intuitive to push harder and do more when times are tough, sometimes the right answer is to do the opposite. People only have so much capacity, and when we push them beyond that threshold, you end up with diminishing returns.
