Cyber Vigilance Critical for Major Events, Says Expert at National Cybersecurity Conference We are participating at #ConveneFl24, the National Cybersecurity Alliance premier conference, which featured an insightful presentation by Matthew (@https://lnkd.in/g-RMesAa) on security for high-profile events. As President and CEO of the Kentucky Derby Festival, Gibson manages over 100 annual events centered around the Kentucky Derby, one of the most recognized events in the world. With immense experience overseeing major festivals and shows like Thunder Over Lousiville's airshow, he provided a unique perspective. Gibson explained how the tragic 2017 Las Vegas attack fundamentally changed how they approach physical protection and prompted urgent improvements to cyber defenses across their extensive event portfolio. He now leads emergency planning that involves close coordination with agencies across law enforcement, government, public safety to identify threats in advance. However, Gibson warned cyber vigilance cannot lapse amid the chaos of unplanned incidents, natural disasters, and attacker diversion efforts. He revealed sophisticated examples of malicious actors probing networks when attention was focused elsewhere. That's why education and training became a cornerstone of their cyber strategy, covering staff and the thousands of volunteers involved. Gibson also helped launch a cyber council to foster public-private collaboration on incident readiness for Greater Louisville. Gibson made it clear that for major events, cyber protection must be on par with physical security. Partnerships bridging cyber expertise across government, law enforcement and business are essential for resilience. With major events facing sophisticated cyber threats, Gibson's call for perpetual vigilance, cross-sector cooperation, and crisis readiness serves as an excellent model to follow. #industryleaders #cybersecurity
