This snapshot captures more than just a crack high above the city. It's a reminder that buildings, like people, have stories - some visible, others concealed. When cracks appear in seemingly unreachable areas, it's not just about aesthetics; it's about safety. These concealed imperfections can silently grow, potentially jeopardizing the integrity of the entire building. For our team of forensic engineers, these seemingly unreachable spots are where we shine brightest. This image reminds us of the importance of addressing those hard-to-reach issues, no matter how obscure they may seem. Our commitment is to uncover and resolve these issues, ensuring that every corner of your structure is sound and secure. Safety knows no bounds, and neither do we. /// #StructuralStories #Engineering #ForensicEngineering #PES

Appreciation post for this San Francisco building because: ⚓ It resembles a ship setting sail, which is just cool. 🏆 To build the seismically safest building in the U.S., processes were prioritized (we dig process if you're new here). Quick backstory: In 2018, 181 Fremont opened its doors as “the skyscraper poised for the big one.” Through meticulous process planning, engineering excellence, and innovative materials and design, 181 has garnered loads of international recognition not only for its seismic durability but also for its environmental sustainability and rapid recovery plan in the event of an earthquake. Consider the multiple processes that had to be successfully developed and followed to build 181 Fremont: 〰 Foundation and Seismic Safety Processes: Identified new materials and technologies that could work together to resist wind and seismic forces and prevent damage from swaying. 〰 Structural Innovation Processes: Involved extensive planning and engineering to create a high-strength steel exoskeleton structural system, along with a collaborative process to design mega-braces to limit building drift. 〰 Detailed Design Process: Leveraged the chevron facade to maximize views and reduce wind forces, tilted glass for aesthetics, and improved internal cooling with increased shade. 〰 Environmental Sustainability Process: Developed sustainable practices and materials procurement, and coordinated across teams to ensure compliance with green energy standards at state and federal levels. 〰 Resilience and Recovery Process: Detailed planning and engineering processes reduced steel usage, thereby reducing life-cycle cost and environmental footprint. The processes used to bring 181 Fremont to San Francisco not only led to a slew of global awards but also showcase to the rest of the world how people and tools, multiplied by the power of process, can exceed expectations (in this case) in safety, sustainability, and architectural excellence. #sustainability #process #engineering #RSAC #SanFrancisco

Privacy in the construction world—it's a delicate dance. Working with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals is undeniably rewarding. The glimpses into dream-worthy projects are nothing short of surreal. Yet, here's my take: discretion is key. Who, where, and what—these are not casual topics, especially condensed into one sentence. Call it old-school, but some experiences are better left unspoken. I've encountered jaw-dropping features and elements, each a unique masterpiece. Do I spill the details? No. Why? Because it's not just about views, ego boosts, or showcasing my portfolio. It's about respect for my clients' privacy, past, present, and future. Sure, I'd love to flaunt those spectacular projects on social media, but that's not my priority.

Why Won-Door for Corridor Separation? Corridors surround and weave their way through all parts of the built environment. They allow for the efficient movement of occupants and property. In several instances, checkpoints in the corridor are mandated or desired for fire and security. Learn more 👇 👇 https://lnkd.in/ehKDmTPv #firedoors #wondoors #safetydoors #architects #firesafety

Keynote Speaker on Human Connection and Compassionate Leadership l Founder, HR Summit Global™, Global Authors Summit, and World Gratitude Summit™ | Author of 15 books | TEDx Speaker l info@shanacino.com
Today, my assistant wheeled me to the roofdeck so I can watch the sunset. The clouds, the sky, and the sunset were glorious. I’m so grateful I got to sit down in silence for a good 45 minutes to watch the sunset. #simplejoys For someone like me who loves to walk and complete 7,500 steps a day, having my foot on cast for 6-8 weeks is very challenging. I can’t help but think about how important it is for engineers, architects, and property developers to design buildings and walkways that are safe for everyone. I tripped on a walkway that had an unforeseen step. The building engineer admitted that their walkway was indeed hazardous. While I choose not to disclose this huge reputable company’s name, this incident highlights a broader issue. It’s a call to engineers, architects, and developers to balance aesthetic appeal with the fundamental need for safety in their designs. CROWDSOURCING: To those in positions of influence within the property industry, I pose this question: If a hazardous design in your property led to injury, how would you extend support to the affected individual? #safetyfirst

Chartered Landscape Architect | Landscape strategies/ masterplans/ plans | Discharge of landscape conditions |
Understanding Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIAs) LVIAs are an essential part of the planning process, helping to assess the potential impact of new developments on the surrounding landscape. Whether it's determining the most suitable site for a new project or identifying the least intrusive area to develop within an existing location, LVIAs ensure that any proposed development is both responsible and sustainable. Often requested by local authorities, LVIAs are carried out by impartial experts following the strict guidelines set out in the Guide to Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (GLVIA 4). Although commissioned by the developer, the findings are independent and transparent, helping to protect our landscapes from unnecessary visual intrusion. While there is some room for professional judgement, two qualified landscape architects are likely to reach similar conclusions when evaluating the same site, ensuring consistency and fairness in the assessment process. Looking to understand the impact of your development? Contact Hilary at info@allchangeconsulting.co.uk for expert, advice on LVIA’s. #LVIA #LandscapeProtection #SustainableDevelopment #GLVIA4 #ResponsiblePlanning
