Thoughts From The Trails: Cancelled and delayed flights threatened down time with my bride. We were headed to Denver CO to to a week of traveling around the Black Hills, Badlands and then CrowdStrike hit - no worries we were still 5 days away - BUT we were flying Delta Air Lines so the following Tuesday when we were supposed to fly we got the first of two cancellations and were then bumped to American Airlines who also cancelled our flight. Then get to Denver and Enterprise had nicely cancelled our car reservations... Nothing was going to stop this trip from happening - Spoiler Alert: we made it even if it was a day or two late and $250 poorer... On this trip I wanted to talk about the essentials of purpose - what it means, how you discover it, you know the usual... it is our first Trail Marker at The Forged Leader. Just like the signboard or details at the beginning of the trail - purpose is the first trail marker, and essential before you can unpack strategy, people, communication and repeatable processes (Trail Markers 2-5). So join me on this five part video journey to help you unpack your purpose - who you are supposed to be serving. If you want to go deeper or join a community that will help you on this journey and help you grow a great business then check out https://lnkd.in/eAa-9ZFF https://lnkd.in/ebivRjEm

https://lnkd.in/d9JKZ6Tm Great video about domination of car culture in our societies... about how streets are designed in a way that pedestrians and cyclists are constantly getting messages that drivers are superior...about how with changes in traffic policies we are challenging culture- as the battle is not based on facts and evidence, but on emotions and culture... and last but not least: how in this car culture we can hardly talk about #accessibility for all. #carspiracy #mobility #sustainability

🧑🏫 Motornormativity - a word to describe the omnipresence of car culture, used here from UK University studies and reported on by GCN in the article 👇 👇 below 🚲 Disclaimer - I'm not usually a big fan of GCN, I find they're often more concerned with high-end bike stuff that's out of my price range - Here, however, they're reporting on the society-wide repercussions of relying on the motor car as the principal mode of transport - Essentially everyone normalises the use of the motor car and all other road users must make way for it - Even if you follow and understand these arguments, they raise some interesting ideas, and I urge you to check out the video 🧑🏫 Of particular interest was the way in which the same questions deliver different responses depending on whether or not the word 'car' is included in the question - We have so normalised car use, that we're prepared to bend over backwards and accept all kinds of inconveniences to accommodate it, rather than challenge it 🚲 Obviously as a non-driver I'm all in favour of other forms of transport and want to see priorities given to other options - fast! - If anyone's a driver then be aware, it's not your car that is the problem - it's the prevalence of roads, motor vehicles, pollution and accidents resulting from ubiquitous private motor vehicles that are the problem! 🚲 In every car advert I see, there's just one car driving happily along on its own, delivering the occupants to their destination safely and securely - The reality we see is bumper-to-bumper traffic in our cities, rampant pollution, millions of life-threatening accidents every year When asked to simply consider using their cars less, many drivers in the UK respond angrily, especially against cyclists who they feel shouldn't be on 'their' roads anyway 🧑🏫 I reckon car culture is normalised, but what do you reckon? - And is there a non-confrontational way to start a sensible conversation about this? ------------------------------------------------------------- As a bike fan and Business English coach I post on both topics, follow or connect if you don't want to miss any updates https://lnkd.in/d8-aEZ_C
